'I love all of me.'
This may sound like a highly narcissistic remark to many.
Not to me. Because I struggled for a long time to love all of me. As a child, i wasn't a good looking kid. Even some of my family members thought so, and they'd verbalized it. Like most chinese family of that generation, they assumed children wouldn't know better and wouldn't be affected it. Wrong. I struggled for a long time w self-confidence even after i started modeling. I struggled with self-worth and self-esteem issues, which led me to fall in love too easily, not to mention, with the wrong people, often also for the wrong reasons. I'd fall in love quickly with someone just by knowing the person has slight interest in me.
As a result, i did many things i was not proud of.
Standing here today as a married woman and mother-to-be at 36 years old. I'm so proud to say, I LOVE ALL OF ME! My unglorious past, that unappreciated little girl that i was, my insecurities, my imperfections, all of it!
It took me a long time to get here. It took a lot of self-work, self-awareness, self-realization, meditation, therapy, shattered heart, blood and tears! But I consider myself so lucky; because for some, they never got the chance to arrive at this stage in their entire lifetime.
Marilyn Monroe said, "All little girls should be told they are pretty." while I absolutely agree, i think a better version would be "All children should be told they are beautiful." Because it is highly detrimental for children who grows up without self-worth and self-esteem.
So the next time when you make a mindless/nasty/negative comment to a little child, thinking that it's just an innocent remark and it shouldn't bother him or her, think again. I always say, 'If you have nothing better to say, then don't say anything at all.' TYVM.

April lepas, Haikal hilang 2 gigi depan.
.
Dah elok posing, tetiba si isteri tu cakap--
"Alamak Haikal. Senyum tutup mulut boleh tak? Buruk la gigi takde. Seram aunty tengok."
.
Aku kat tepi tu cuba bertenang walaupun dalam hati rasa nak sumbat kaki kat mulut dia 😑
.
Betul lah.
sehingga lah KITA sendiri yg ajar betapa buruknya mereka.
.
Maka membesarlah anak itu dengan rasa diri tak sempurna, tak cukup putih, tak cukup tinggi, tak cukup sado, tak cukup comel, tak cukup flawless.
.
Benih2 insecurities itu--
KITA yang tanam.
.
Habis selfie, suami isteri tadi happy lalu beredar sambil lambai2 pada Haikal.
.
Hilang je mereka dari pandangan, saya terus tanya Haikal--
"Haikal ok?"
.
"Ok."
Tapi di wajah dia jelas, dia TAK OK.
.
So saya tanya lagi--
"Ada apa2 yang Haikal nak share dengan mama?"
.
Sambil tunduk dia jawab--
"Hmm. Orang tadi cakap Haikal buruk. Bila gigi baru Haikal nak tumbuh ni, ma?"
.
See?!
Begitu2 sahaja benih insecurity berjaya ditanam. 😩
.
Selama ni Haikal tak pernah rasa yang proses ganti gigi ni sebagai satu nightmare--
sampai lah tadi.
.
Dear parents & adults sekalian.
Before running your mouth, remember to plug in your brain.
It can either make them or break them.
.
Segala provokasi, ejekan, makian, leteran, hamburan, sindirian, dari mulut kita, walaupun bergurau--
BE AWARE.
BE MINDFUL.
.
.
Fikir-fikirkan lah.
.
Oh I should've said thank you kat pasangan suami isteri yang minta selfie tadi.
Kalau takde diorang, takde lah post ni. 😂
So thank you guys for this lesson you've taught us today.

Last April, Haikal lost 2 front teeth.
And since then, I heard people talk to him --
.
rongak,
Not handsome anymore,
Not cute anymore,
like a dracula,
Like a tunnel,
sorts of things.
.
And just now, a couple of husbands asked to take a selfie with Haikal. As usual, Haikal never refuses when there are strangers to take pictures with him.
.
Posing well, suddenly the wife said --
′′ Damn Haikal. Can a smile shut up your mouth? It's bad that there's no teeth. Aunty is scary looking at it."
.
I'm at the side trying to be calm even though I feel like putting foot in his mouth 😑
.
That's right.
In the eyes of children, nothing is seen bad in themselves --
until we ourselves teach how bad they are.
.
So grow up the child with an imperfect self, not white enough, not tall enough, not sad enough, not cute enough, not flawless enough.
.
Those seeds of insecurities --
WE are the ones who plant.
.
After selfie, husband and wife are happy and leaving while waves at Haikal.
.
They are gone from sight, I keep asking Haikal --
′′ Haikal ok?"
.
′′ Ok."
But in his face it's clear, he's NOT OK.
.
So I ask again --
′′ Is there anything Haikal to share with mama?"
.
While he was down he answered --
′′ Hmm. The guy said Haikal was bad. When Haikal's new tooth is growing, ma?"
.
See?!
Just like that the seed of insecurity is successfully planted. 😩
.
Haikal has never felt the process of changing teeth as a nightmare --
Until now.
.
Dear parents & adults all.
Before running your mouth, remember to plug in your brain. Every single word that comes out of our mouth will become the inner voice in our children.
It can either make them or break them.
.
All provocation, mocking, craziness, scattering, scattering, sarcasion, from our mouth, even though we joke --
BE AWARE.
BE MINDFUL.
.
Remember, we want to plant self-esteem seeds, confidence, self-worth, and empathy in the children. Instead of seed insecurities that make them get longer and more lost themselves.
.
Think about it.
.
Oh I should've said thank you to the couple who asked for selfie earlier.
Kalau takde diorang, takde lah post ni. 😂
So thank you guys for this lesson you've taught us today.

So here’s my New Year’s resolution for the upcoming year ~ and that’s to learn to love myself more. And I don’t mean it in a narcissistic way, but more of a self-loving way. And it might sound like a weird thing to say especially for a guy, but i believe in actuality everyone has insecurities or self-doubt, or things that they might not really love about themselves when they look in the mirror. And a lot of times, we become so cruel and critical of ourselves that we constantly lower our own self-esteem and self-worth. But I’m here to tell you that no one is perfect and everyone has flaws, but at the same time everyone has great things about them too. And we are all beautifully designed by God and we are perfect in his eyes. So next time you look in the mirror, I hope you can learn to love the person you see and embrace yourself for who you are in it’s entirety because you are beautiful! Let’s make it our goal this year, and love ourselves more. And btw thanks @jamieleehair for the cut! New cut, new year!!! 🎆🙏🏻 #newyearsresolutions2020 #selflove #nonarcissism

I get this questions ALL THE TIME: I try to motivate myself but it seems like it's not working anymore!
Ask yourself these questions:
1. Do I feel fearful after hearing the 'motivational speech'?
2. Would I say that to a friend?
3. Am I building my self-esteem/self-worth as I do so?
If your answers are NO, most likely you are NOT building a sustainable way to 'motivate' yourself!

?? THE POWER OF SELF-AWARENESS ??❤️
We’ve all heard of words like self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth ... but how about self-awareness? What exactly is self-awareness and what is the power of self-awareness?
Self-awareness is the ability to focus and evaluate our thoughts, feelings and actions. It ultimately allows us to master our emotions and not let our emotions master us. As a life coach, I hope to empower you to understand the concept of self-awareness.
The Cycle of Self-Awareness:
1. THOUGHTS - We can’t control the thoughts that pop in our head, but we can control which thoughts to focus on and which to dismiss. Although it’s good to focus on positive thoughts, we can’t simply ignore the negative ones. When we have negative thoughts, are these facts or merely opinions? Let’s tackle the negative facts and dismiss the negative opinions.
2. FEELINGS - What we feel, influences our actions. We need to be mindful and aware of the feelings that arise from our thoughts. Are we feeling positive or negative from our thoughts? When negative feelings emerge, let’s ask ourselves why and determine the root cause.
3. ACTIONS - We can either choose to REACT, an emotional action (“immature”) or RESPOND, a rational action (“mature”). When we are aware of the feelings which stem from our thoughts and the root causes of them, we have full control to respond rationally.
4. OUTCOMES - Our outcomes are a direct result of our actions. If we react emotionally, this will lead to a viscous cycle of negative thoughts, negative feelings and negative outcomes. As such, we must respond rationally and take control of our outcomes.
This process will take time and patience. So let’s be gentle and loving with ourselves! Next time we have a negative thought in our head which we cannot merely dismiss, let’s take a few moments to be mindful of how we are feeling. Should we react emotionally and let our emotions take the better part of us or respond rationally and take control of our emotions? When we choose to respond rationally, notice how it changes our outcomes !
Yours truly,
The Maisie Lining ❤️
