Another H145M LUH SAR delivered to the German Army
On 17 April 2020, Airbus Helicopters delivered the fourth (out of seven ordered) H145M LUH SAR helicopter to the HEER (German Army). The new SAR H145M will replace the ageing UH-1D Huey in the SAR role. More H145Ms will follow to fulfill the utility role of the HEER UH-1Ds.
In a small delivery ceremony, the third H145M LUH SAR (serial 77+03) was accompanied by specially marked UH-1D 73+08. Last week, UH-1D 73+08 started its Goodbye Huey tour (*), but due to the Corona crisis most of the announced visits were cancelled (see http://goodbyehuey.de for the actual tour dates).
The H145M LUH SAR is a logical choice for the SAR role with the HEER, as this configuration is already a proven concept. The helicopter has a fully digital cockpit, hi-def cameras, multiple search lights, ELT beacon detectors, full medical equipment and an advanced 90 metre winch. It can also be reconfigured as a firefighting helicopter, able to carry a Bambi Bucket. In many ways the H145M is a worthy successor to the UH-1D (SAR) helicopter, which has seen service with the German Armed Forces (HEER and Luftwaffe) for over 5 decades.
