It was such a pleasure interviewing CEO and Co-founder of @teamnovonordisk, @iamphilsoutherland at the Sama-Sama launch last week.

Phil was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was only 7 months old, the youngest case of diabetes on record in the world at that time.

The doctor told his mom that he wouldn’t live past 25 years of age.

He is living proof of someone who defies all odds.

Now the Global Ambassador for diabetes, he has shown the world how he has beat all odds to turn his diagnosis and passion for cycling into a platform of inspiration.

He led an all-diabetes cycling team to victory and since founded in 2005, it is now the world’s first all-diabetes pep-cycling team and features a development team, elite team, and one female professional track star, Mandy Marquardt.

Phil shares how family & friend support was vital in his growth and why empowering caregivers is such an important step leading to the Sama-Same campaign launch held at Putrajaya during World Diabetes Day celebrations.
