特別感謝勵馨基金會重要的國際事務推手安東尼特別寫了一篇英文報導
一步一腳印是我不會忘記的初衷!
Ye Da-hua (葉大華) election candidate, secretary general of the Taiwan Alliance for Advancement of Youth Rights and Welfare (台少盟), GOH (勵馨基金會 The Garden of Hope Foundation) board member and former GOH co-worker came into the HQ this morning for the weekly GOH Time meeting. Ye is a proportional representative candidate for the Green Party (綠黨) & Social Democratic Party (社會民主黨) alliance - one of the many smaller parties vying for seats in the squeeze between the two biggies - the KMT and DPP.
Ye talked about how she got involved in politics, starting from her volunteer work with the GOH 20 years ago, selling daisy pins to save child prostitutes (the Chinese for daisy "chuju" has a similar pronunciation to "chiji" - "child prostitute). After graduating from college Ye got a job at GOH. During her 8-year career she saw how young people were overlooked by government programs, which inspired her to form the Youth Alliance.
Quoting from the Bible, Ye said she believed you have to "put out into the deep and let down your nets" (Luke 5:4) to catch marginalized people who slip through the welfare net. Ye talked about how important it was to vote for smaller parties, like Green-SDP, in the proportional representative vote to break the two-party monopoly of the Legislative Yuan and elect more law-makers who represent the voices of the youth, elderly, working class and other vulnerable sectors of society.
Ye showed us a video produced by her Alliance which shows how the suffrage cake is sliced up to exclude 18-year-olds from the vote.
