Lunch at Jing Ze with my good friend Charles not too long before I popped. We opted for the lunch set (RM50 per person) — comprising snacks, an appetizer, one main course and a sorbet.
For snacks, we had the crispy corn, loh mai kai wings, Taiwanese pulled duck bao and rendang pork belly bao. Kunyit tofu was an interesting take on egg tofu, seasoned and deep-fried then topped with peanut sauce and pickled vege.
I had the charred pork belly rice bowl, served with sambal matah, zippy cabbage, pork lard and nahm jim dressing. Flavours are bold with plenty of textural contrasts in one plate. Charles’ rempah tempura chicken reminds me of gado gado and nam yue chicken, with good kick from the sambal.
Flavours are adventurous so if you’re into modern Asian concepts, this one’s for you. Service needs work overall — they seemed a bit kelam kabut that afternoon. And they forgot my sorbet so no photo of that. 😆 @ Jing Ze Contemporary Asian Restaurant

One day I recieved a call "remember that Khao Soi I was telling you about? Well, I'm sending one over", those were the words coming from a woman who I deeply respect as a mentor and business woman and her heart is as big as her successes.
Shortly after I recieved a tiffin set with an arrangement of elements to build a khao Soi (Northern Thai style curry noodles), starting from the most extraordinarily lush noodles I've encountered for Khao Soi, along with rich but not too rich, creamy and hot curry, filled with tender chunks of chicken and an additional tiffin full of the freshest and tastiest condiments, like shallots and pickled Asian mustard cabbage.
Suffice to say it was one of the best khao soi I've had in my entire experience of tasting Thai food and get this, is not from some fancy restaurant or Michelin rated chef but from the maid of said friend who followed the recipe of her mother.
What a blessing it is to have people allow you to experience honest, homestyle food, not for any other reason but simply to share the same joys in life, in the hope at it may bring you an equal happiness.
It might be difficult times now foodies but never underestimate the power of giving. 🙏🥰

Number of servings: 1
Ingredients:
100g (3.5oz.) Japanese Yamato yam
1/2 tsp. Kombu Dashi powder *other soup stock powder is OK
125g (4.4oz.) shredded cabbage
15g (0.5oz.) chopped green onions
1 tbsp. Beni Shoga (red pickled ginger)
cooking oil
((toppings))
* Okonomiyaki sauce
* egg free mayonnaise
* Aonori (green laver)
Okonomiyaki Sauce from scratch (about 2 servings):
2 tbsp. Vegan Worcestershire sauce (or Tonkatsu sauce) + 2 tbsp. ketchup + 1 tsp. sugar (or agave syrup)
Directions:
1. Grate Yamato yam in a bowl and mix Kombu Dashi powder.
2. Add shredded cabbage, chopped green onions, and Beni Shoga, then mix well until cabbage gets wilted.
3. Heat cooking oil in a frying pan. Spread the batter in a circular shape, cover, and cook on low for about 5 minutes. Then flip it over, cover, and cook the other side for 5 minutes until golden brown.
4. Serve on a plate, and sprinkle with toppings.
You can also use Nagaimo (Chinese yam) or regular potato. However, they may be bit soggy that you may want to add 1 or 2 tbsp. of gluten free flour.

Yakisoba (焼きそば) is Japanese fried noodles.
I kept the recipe very simple using a minimum ingredients. Of course you can use meat (or seafood) and veggies of your choice!!! I hope you get an idea how to make it ;)
---------------------------------
Yakisoba from Scratch
Difficulty: Very Easy
Time: 15min
Number of servings: 2
Ingredients:
2 packages Yakisoba noodles (steamed Chuka noodles)
100g (3.5oz.) thinly sliced pork rib
200g (7oz.) cabbage
4 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp. Tenkasu (crunchy bits of deep fried flour-batter) *if you like
Aonori (green laver)
Beni Shoga (red pickled ginger)
Directions:
1. Cut pork into bite-size pieces. Thinly cut the cabbage.
2. Put frying pan on medium, place the Yakisoba noodles and cook for 2 minutes. Shake to release the noodles, cook for 3 minutes, remove form the pan and set aside.
3. Cook the pork until done, add cabbage, sprinkle with Tenkasu (if you like), then cover with the noodles and steam for 2 minutes.
4. Mix well and season with Worcestershire sauce.
5. Serve on a dish, sprinkle with Aonori, and garnish with Beni Shoga.
You can also top with mayonnaise and/or Katsuobushi (bonito flakes) if you like.
