God Finds this Attractive
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30 WEB)
Dear reader, if we can be real with ourselves, wouldn’t you agree that everyone wants to look attractive, be healthy and fit? There is absolutely nothing wrong with desiring that.
In fact, God desires that we prosper in all things (even our physical beauty and attractiveness) and be healthy even as our soul prospers.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2 WEB)
Ugliness, sickness and weakness are symptoms of Death which God counts as an enemy. If you feel like life is so unfair and you’re wondering why God made you so ugly, sickly and/or weak, be assured that God did not make you this way.
It is just the effect and consequence of the sin nature in our flesh that we are all born with. It began with Adam and it’s still perpetuating in our bodies today. If anyone is behind it, it’s the devil who schemed to bring Death into this world and is still wielding the Law (Ten Commandments) of Moses to cause Death in ignorant Christians who try to be justified by the Law today.
If you desire to receive the blessings of physical beauty, health and fitness, God’s word shares the secrets on how it can happen for you. However, before we begin, I would like to talk about what God finds most attractive about a person.
Throughout the whole passage of Proverbs 31 that talks about the traits of a virtuous woman, none of the descriptions says that God loves a woman who has physical beauty.
In fact, as the verse at the beginning of this chapter says, He says that charm and grace (elegance) are deceptive and superficial beauty is vain.
Then what does God find attractive about a person? Notice that the Proverbs 31 descriptions of the virtuous woman focuses on her actions—what she does for her family and for God, which reflects on her diligent character and heart that’s full of love.
That’s the answer: God is attracted by a beautiful heart that is full of love for Him. He loves it when a person has inner beauty—a heart that resembles His Son Jesus.
Out of all the parts of our body, God tells us in His word to keep our hearts above all else, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23). Dear brother or sister in Christ, it is okay to take actions to maintain or enhance your physical beauty.
However, we should prioritize cultivating the beauty of our heart. We can do so by guarding our heart from negative news which can produce fearful imaginations.
When non-constructive criticisms or insults come your way, don’t take them to heart. On top of that, we can feed on God’s word daily and through seeing Jesus in the word, we will be transformed from glory to glory!
The good news is, when you prioritize increasing the beauty of your heart, your physical appearance will also become more attractive as a by-product!
Let us Pray: “Dear Abba Father, help us to develop a beautiful heart that resembles Your Son Jesus. We want to radiate the inner beauty that’s so attractive to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!”
