MCO means that I finally have time to tidy up and #Throwback some cases!🦷✨😊
This case is pretty interesting, let’s get in depth in the captions. By the way, what do you think about this #BWShade veneers?🤩
To achieve this result:
Smile Design • Orthodontic treatment • Laser Gingivectomy • In-Office Whitening • No-Prep Composite Veneers
When you see this case, what do you see first? Gummy smile? Small tooth size? If you did, you’re correct! Patient came in with the same concern and wanted to have a fuller smile.😁
But! She also present with with maxillary canting and a distolabially rotated 11. We discussed about possible ortho treatment options to correct her maxillary canting, but she decided to accept it as she has never noticed it until our consultation visit, and she never had masticatory or TMJ problem.
However, we did carry out a short term orthodontic treatment with clear aligners to derotate the 11 so as the better the veneer placement while being conservative. If we don’t derotate but wish to place the veneers without prepping, we will have to place very thick veneers which can affect her phonation (speech) and lip discomfort.
We then proceed with laser gingivectomy. The upper right quadrant is slight bit gummy compared to the left due to the canting and I do not wish to violate the biological width. Patient was happy with the gingivectomy result and we proceed with in-office whitening.
Placement of 8-units composite veneers with injection molding technique with @gc_malaysia G-aenial Universal Injectable Composite (Shade BW), Zhermack clear silicone template from @acme.onlinemall , and minor touch ups with @dental2u composite instruments.
This is one of those case that requires a lot of planning, but it’s all worth it when patient first saw her veneers and told me she loved it. I hope her smile is as bright as her vision now (she’s an optometrist😂)!😆
Special thanks to my mentor dr @hakienoon for encouraging me in my smile makeover journey!

This procedure known as Gingivectomy (commonly known as “Gum Recountouring”) is often done for patients who have gummy smile or prior their Smile Makeover with veneers. 😁
It “reshapes” the gums by removing the excessive parts, giving the tooth a proper crown ratio thus a better appearance.
Is it painful? Nope, as it will be done under local anaesthesia (“numbing”).
Is it dangerous? No as your dentist will make sure that the biological width (the “danger border”) is not violated.
I commonly use laser to carry out my Gingivectomy treatments as the result is more predictable, not to mention it does not cause bleeding (in fact, it helps stop bleeding!) and jagged edges. Of course it can be carried out with scalpel blade as well.🦷
How long can it last? The result is permanent....unless you don’t take care of your oral hygiene and end up with a lot of inflamed, swollen gums! (I wouldn’t do Gingivectomy for patients with poor oral hygiene, proper oral health is foundation 🏡)
How many of you know about this treatment? Leave a “😍” in the comment section if you’ve never seen this procedure before!
