Myanmar soldiers dragged a pregnant Rohingya woman out of her home and stomped on her stomach with their heavy boots until her unborn child was smashed to death.
5 soldiers then took turns raping another young woman after they butchered her husband. When her 8 month old toddler started crying out for his mother, they simply stabbed the baby to death to silence him forever.
Another 5 year old girl ran screaming to protect her mother who was also being gang raped by the soldiers. One of the rapists responded by slitting the child's throat with a knife.
Just snippets of the unimaginable horrors being committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar's Rakhine state, as revealed by a recent UN report- which sadly but unsurprisingly fell on deaf ears. Violence has since then escalated beyond measure, as recent reports suggest that Myanmar soldiers have burnt at least 700 Rohingya homes and slaughtered 400 Rohingya people. Raped, maimed, tortured, beheaded and shot on sight. As many as 50,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh in this week alone to escape this horror only to be turned away by Bangladesh border guards for their imminent death. They say they would rather be shot dead by the guards than return.
The Rohingya are the most persecuted minority group in the world who are being ethnically cleansed by calculated genocide for years, that too at the hands of militant monks who claim to be Buddhist, yet there is virtually no international outcry or condemnation of the Myanmar government from world leaders or the mainstream media.
How many more babies will have to be beheaded in front of their mothers and how many more daughters will have to be gang raped in front of their fathers until the world wakes up to the plight of the Rohingya people?
