If you put the initials D and J before your name then it means you value the importance of curating a program of music. It means the letters D and J which precede your name encompass a sum total of the art of playing music, not just manipulating it. It means the process by which you select music for a set or performance is achieved in a way that serves the people you play music for.
We, Da Odd Couple, take pride in being able to rock a party in a sensible way. Scratching and "Beat Juggling" is definitely an awesome way to entertain people and yourself. But for us, only a return to the origins of why DJs like Kool Herc, Grand Master Flash and GrandWizzard Theodore created this art form in the first place will sustain "Turntablism" as we know it.
P.S. We'd be remiss if we didn't thank Ahh Yeah for inviting us to perform at Peavey Presents Amplify 2018 New Jersey DJ battle. We had a blast. Also, this is us sending love to our brother @rRoli Rho. Thanks for rockin' the bells with us. We're sure Roc Raida was smiling down at us from heaven.
