認識地中海貧血
地中海貧血是一種遺傳性血液疾病,由於基因缺損令患者無法產生足夠的正常血色素,造成不同程度的貧血。重型地中海貧血患者需要長期輸血;中型地中海貧血患者脾臟腫大,有可能要切除或服食除鐵藥物。而部份輕型地中海貧血患者終身沒有症狀,部份患者則可能因為貧血而導致容易疲勞。
從中醫角度看,雖然地貧基因不能逆轉,但可針對症狀對症下藥。貧血屬於血虛範疇,一般以補養氣血及調理脾腎為主,如果有容易頭暈、心悸、面色偏白、嘴唇色淡、皮膚乾燥等血虛症狀,適量飲用補氣養血的湯水有助改善情況,如情況嚴重或持續,宜諮詢註冊中醫師治理。
食材小貼士:
紅豆性平,能補血和胃,紓緩集中力不夠、氣血虛弱等症狀。適合各類體質人士服用。
南瓜紅豆腰果素湯
功效:養血強身,紓緩心悸、頭暈、睡眠差等症狀。
材料:南瓜半個(約800克)、紅蘿蔔2根、紅豆30克、腰果30克、花生30克、紅棗4枚
做法:
1. 把所有材料洗淨,木瓜及南瓜去皮去籽切塊,腰果先以白鍋炒香備用。
2. 鍋中加入約2500毫升水,放入全部材料,以武火煮至水滾,調文火煮約2小時,加鹽調味即成。
備註:體質偏熱人士不宜經常飲用。

What is Thalassemia?
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder, and its patients are unable to produce sufficient hemoglobin for the body, causing them to suffer from various degrees of anemia.
Patients with thalassemia major have to go for blood transfusion regularly; those with thalassemia intermedia might have a swollen spleen. If need be, they might have to remove the spleen and take Deferasirox (an iron chelator used to treat chronic iron overload); thalassemia minor sufferers might not exhibit any symptoms, but they would feel exhausted easily due to anemia.
From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, though this genetic disorder is irreversible, there are ways to relieve the symptoms. Anemia is a type of blood deficiency, so the plan should focus on nourishing the qi and the blood and regulating the spleen and kidneys.
Individuals with blood deficiency-related symptoms such as dizziness and palpitation, pale face and lips, and dry skin should drink soups that can replenish the qi and nourish the blood. If the condition persists, consult registered and licensed Chinese physicians.
Tips on ingredient:
Red beans are mild in nature and can replenish blood and stomach. Relieves symptoms of lack of concentration, asthenic qi and blood. Suitable for all body types.
Pumpkin and red bean soup with cashew
Effects: Nourishes the blood, strengthens the body. Relieves heart palpitations, dizziness and improves sleep quality.
Ingredients: 1/2 pumpkin, 2 carrot, 30g red beans, 30g cashews, 30g peanuts, 4 red dates
Preparation:
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Remove skin and seeds from the pumpkin and cut into pieces. Cut the peeled carrot into pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2500ml of water in a pot and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 2 hours. Add salt to taste.
Note: Those with excess heat should consume in moderation.

☐ 多吃 — 容易感到肚餓,用餐後不到兩小時又餓了。
☐ 多喝 — 經常感到口乾舌燥,不斷想喝水
☐ 多尿 — 小便變得頻密,上廁所的次數增加,特別是夜間尿頻
☐ 體重減少 — 沒有刻意減肥但體重減少
☐ 乏力 — 經常覺得疲倦及昏昏欲睡
☐ 易受感染 — 例如尿道炎反覆發作
☐ 容易煩躁 — 覺得身體燥熱又多汗

Watch out for diabetes symptoms

皮膚痕癢有原因
濕疹、風疹或皮膚敏感甚至暗瘡患者發作時痕癢難當,忍不住不斷抓,甚至抓到皮破流血,真是有苦自己知。明明已經乖乖戒口,盡量避開發物,痕癢還是不斷發作?除了注意食物,有檢視過平日的飲品選擇嗎?從中醫角度來看,濕疹、皮膚敏感等症狀與脾虛有密切關係,香港人常喝的咖啡、奶茶都會加重濕疹症狀,不想痕到懷疑人生,就要忍一忍口了。
容易引致皮膚敏感痕癢的飲品:
☠️咖啡 — 屬性偏溫,具利尿作用,過量飲用會傷陰, 加速皮膚乾燥,令病情惡化。
☠️奶茶 — 紅茶性溫,牛奶滋膩,會影響脾胃消化功能,令水濕積聚體內,鬱而化熱,加重皮膚痕癢情況。
☠️牛奶 — 有補益的作用,如體內有濕者飲用會增加脾胃負擔,濕從內生,令皮膚問題惡化。
☠️啤酒 — 性溫,能散寒氣,有活血功效,但要注意啤酒並沒有清熱作用,更會積聚濕氣,冷飲更屬生冷食物,加重病情。
☠️凍飲 — 低於室溫的凍飲都屬生冷食物,容易生痰生濕,以致脾虛濕盛,令皮膚痕癢纏綿不癒。

Why does our skin itch?
The itch caused by eczema, rubella, sensitive skin and even acne can be unbearable, and very often, we cannot resist the urge from scratching it. Sometimes, compulsive scratching can even cause bleeding. We might have controlled our diet and avoided certain food, but why does our skin still itch?
Other than the food we eat, have we also paid attention to the beverages we drink? From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, eczema and sensitive skin are closely associated with the weakness of the spleen. The coffee and milk tea Hong Kong citizens enjoy can further exacerbate the condition. If we want to avoid feeling itchy from time to time, we have to be mindful of the beverages we take as well.
Drinks that might easily cause sensitive skin to itch:
☠️ Coffee – warm in nature and has a diuretic effect. Excessive consumption of coffee can damage the yin and dehydrate the skin, causing our skin to itch.
☠️ Milk tea – red tea is warm in nature, whereas milk is thick in nature and has a high satiety effect; can affect the digestive functions of the spleen and stomach. Dampness will then stagnate, causing the body to have excess heat. This will then exacerbate the itching on the skin.
☠️ Milk – has nourishing properties; the spleen and stomach of people with dampness in the body will have to work extra hard if these individuals consume milk. Inevitably, dampness would continue to stagnate in the body, worsening the existing skin problem.
☠️ Beer – warm in nature, can dispel cold and invigorate the blood. Please note that drinking beer does not dissipate the heat. On the contrary, it might cause dampness to accumulate in the body. Drinking it cold can cause the itch to become more severe.
☠️Cold beverages – any cold drinks that are below the room temperature are raw and cold food. Consuming raw and cold food can induce phlegm and dampness, hence, weakening the spleen and causing dampness to stagnate in the body. This is how itchy skin becomes a never-ending problem.

Hey baby angels ^.^
Boohoo for sick days! I've been struck with the cold for the past 2 weeks. My nose is so blocked that I struggle getting sleep these days. Im mega exhausted and kinda bummed out but it's ok, we all get sick. We just need to get lots of rest, drink lots of water and take medicine. It also inspired me to do a Makeup for Sick Days tutorial hehee. Figured this might come in handy for this time of the year. This is really just an everyday look that targets the problematic areas of the flu (dry skin, red nose, pale lips, puffy eyes etc). In fact, this look can also be worn for tired days too.
We'll all want to stay home in our pjs and whine all day but there's gonna be days where we'll need to go out (and face people O_O). It could be for work, school or errands. I don't know about you guys but when I'm sick, the last thing I want to do is to spend too much effort or time doing my makeup. I only have two criteria:
1. Sick friendly makeup. I'm sneezing all the time so my eyes water like crazy throughout the day. I don't need my eye makeup to smudge on me.
2. Let's not be greedy. We don't need to look glamorous. Looking healthy is enough for me.
Caking lots of makeup on a tired face only makes things worse. I've learnt that lots of foundation makes a dry face look even more cakey. A smokey eye on immense dark circles makes eyes appear even more tired. Less really is more.
I apologise if I sound too nasally in this video. I had to do the voice over in the morning (had to head out that day) and I'm most nasal during this time.
To anybody who is also sick out there, I hope you recover soon. Remember to drink lots of water, get lots of rest and take medication!!! *big bubbi hug*
