Asian Millennial Traveller Types
Polling millennials across the Asia Pacific region with our Travel Personality Quiz, we discovered some top Asian millennial traveller’s traits. For example, when asked what their favourite thing to do on holiday was, 43 percent said they were interested in cultural history, while 19 percent preferred to just hang out and people-watch.
More than 1,000 travellers participated in the survey with over 85 percent of respondents aged between 18 and 35. A series of multiple choice questions were asked including where is their perfect place to stay, what will feature in their holiday photos, favourite dining experience, and things to see and do.
At the end of the quiz the respondent’s travel personality is revealed, together with recommendations of where to go and what to do:
• 63 percent said they wanted to take photos of temples, beautiful landscapes and themselves immersed in local culture,
• 79 percent preferred to eat either local cuisine or street food and 56 percent were interested in purchasing local crafts,
• 66 percent described their approach to travel as either exciting or open-minded.
"We’re seeing a full shift from tourist to explorer"
We catagorized travellers into seven distinct types as in infographic.
The Digital Sophisticat wants to stay at a well known or ‘famous’ hotel, loves coffee hangouts and selfies, and wants to create a buzz about everywhere they go. They are constantly posting their travel experiences on social media.
Cultural Explorers are focused on experiencing the authenticity of a destination through a street market, local temples and mother nature. They always carry a phrasebook so they can personally engage with locals.
Hybrid travellers want to have it all. They manage to enjoy all types of travel experiences ranging from luxury to social to cultural to eco. It really must be a full time job for them.
"60% said they would go on holiday for as long as they can, or at least enough time to relax"
Finally, Asian millennial travelers were asked; “If you could pack only one item of luggage what would it be?” Not surprisingly the overwhelming majority (59%) chose their smartphone.
So, which type of traveller are you ?
