Elon Musk 可說是全世界影響力最高的商業領袖之一，而且在媒體及社群媒體的聲望奇高無比（IG 有200萬追隨者，Twitter 有6000萬），甚至一句話就可以影響市場的走向。

他肯定是溝通大師對不對？而且舞台魅力一定很強大？

Well... 從溝通成效的角度來看，他是很厲害沒錯，但如果你看任何一場他的演講，你肯定會覺得很困惑。你會覺得：這個人怎麼這麼尷尬，這麼不會講話？

隨便在 Youtube 上面搜尋他演講的影片，看個幾分鐘，你就會知道我們在說什麼了。看個幾分鐘就可以跳出至少以下的問題：

• 說話吱吱唔唔，贅字一堆
• 停頓在很尷尬的地方，感覺不知道自己在哪裡
• 投影片視覺，跟口述的內容常常對不起來
• 容易忘記自己要說什麼，明顯要去偷瞄一下投影片，不然無法繼續說等等...

啊... 那他到底厲害在哪裡？為什麼一個講話這麼尷尬不流暢的人，能夠迷惑全球這麼多人，發揮如此大的影響力？

我們看完一些他演講影片的結論，是他的魅力來源，跟「前一波」的商業領袖，如 Steve Jobs，截然不同。你甚至可以說，**他們的風格是完全相反的。**

我們今天就從 Musk 的一些演講中，來看他的反向操作！

📌 反操作1：Jobs Overstates, Musk Understates

首先，Steve Jobs 開始用的一個「技巧」，說好聽是「讚嘆」，說難聽就是「誇大」，不論發表的產品是否真的是突破性創新，反正就是用 "incredible"、"revolutionary" 等字眼來形容。英文的一個形容，就是 "overstatement" - 把什麼東西都講的「超過」一點。

結果一大堆商業演講的人，做產品無法像 Jobs，但用誇張的形容詞卻學的很像。

Musk 就不一樣。

他自己知道他做的事情很難（讓永續能源普及、把人類變成多個星球的物種），所以他反而用很「沒什麼大不了」的字眼跟語氣來傳達，反而讓這種「謙虛」變成一種效果。這個就不是 "overstatement"，而是 “understatement" - 什麼東西都講的收斂一點。

舉個例子：他2016年介紹太陽能屋頂的時候，有描述一個很大，很難實現的未來，是這樣說的：

> What is the future that we want? It's consisted of really appealing solar roof... then combine that with storage, and with electric cars.

It's an obvious 3-part solution... Yeah... 3 part solution... uh...

It's really not that complicated.

沒錯，他講完之後停頓了一下，然後說嗯，對，就是三個部分，真的沒那麼複雜 lol。

好比在跟聽眾說：「啊就很簡單啊，你們還要我說什麼？」連聽眾都笑出來：

如果是賈伯斯派的門徒來說，可能會說：

2. Efficient and integrated storage

Ok，我寫的有點誇張，但 you get the point。

他最近在發表 Tesla Bot 的演講中，也描述了一個很大的未來，你看看他的說法：

➜ What is the economy? It is uh... at the foundation, it's labor. So what happens when there's... uh... no shortage of labor?

So I think in the long-term, there will need to be universal basic income (applause)... Not right now, because the robot doesn't work (laugh)... we just need a minute.

Essentially, in the future, physical work will be a choice... if you want to do it, you can, but you wouldn't need to do it. Obviously it has profound implications for the economy, because... the economy, at its foundational level, is labor, and capital is just distilled labor, then... is there an actual limit to the economy? Maybe not...

你很難想像有人可以把一些這麼遠大的願景 - 人力工作變成一個選擇、每人都享有基本收入等等 - 用更平鋪直述的方式，沒什麼好大驚小怪的語氣說出來。

Btw... Musk 還隨口說了一句 "capital is just distilled labor"。別叫我翻譯，因為我根本不知道這是什麼意思，尤其是 "distilled" 在這裡的用意。如果你去 google "distilled labor"，也找不到什麼東西，只有不到兩千個 search result。

有人會覺得 Musk 太聰明了，所以才會常常說出正常人不懂的話，但我個人覺得他是故意的：就是要「埋」一些每人聽得懂的話，才能加深他「天才」的形象。

Musk 把複雜困難的事情說成很簡單，還有另一個好處：就是大家可能會覺得「這些很難的事情，好像難不倒他耶，嗯他看來真的是個天才！」

大家可能有時候會聽人家說，在西方，就是要懂得如何吹捧自己。但其實有時候不一定要這樣。

📌 反操作2：尷尬反而是魅力

其實，在賈伯斯用流暢的舞台表演稱霸市場之後，很多企業家都下苦工，練就一身演說武功。如 Bill Gates 或是 Mark Zuckerberg，都很明顯的從內向而且不會演講的人，變成老練的演說家。

Musk 很明顯沒有。Honestly, he's not even trying。

上面的影片，一個是2016年，一個是2021年，你覺得哪個舞台上的 Elon Musk，比較尷尬？這個當然有點主觀，但我兩個都看完之後，會覺得今年的他，講的更卡，更不好。

但是 Elon Musk 很明顯的根本沒有在 care 這一塊 lol。如果他有心要成為非常流暢的講者，你覺得這種小事能夠難倒他嗎？

💕「愛台灣，我的選擇」系列第16發：熱愛台灣詩的美國學者白瑞梅(Amie Parry)

「我在加州內陸地區一個叫做聖伯納迪諾的小城市長大，隨後在聖地牙哥念大學和研究所，並獲得文學博士學位。求學期間我們必須至少選修一門外語，所以我就選了中文。1987年我大學畢業之後，跟朋友來了台灣一趟，在台灣教英文和學中文六個月，接著就自己一個人當起背包客在亞洲四處旅遊。

我本來想要研究中國古典詩詞，後來因為獲得傅爾布萊特獎學金，便又再度回到台灣。當時我在討論詩詞的聚會上認識了幾位現代派詩人，所以我就將研究主題轉而聚焦在台灣60、70和80年代的現代詩。我的博士論文探討的就是，以現代主義來理解現有政治語言中難以理解的現代性。我認為歷史形塑而來的經驗，往往比語言本身還要複雜。

我研究的那些詩作沒有明確的政治性，反而是有很強的實驗性質，並帶著詭譎的神秘感。當時我認識的現代派詩人大多是跟著國民黨飄洋過海來台的外省人，他們經歷過戰爭和顛沛流離，也經歷過劇烈且痛苦的歷史創傷。每個人的經驗都不同，在那個年代，也很難說出口。後來，我寫了一本關於詩的書，並聚焦在一兩位我覺得特別有趣的詩人。我在書中問了一些類似的問題：這些詩作如何幫你思考艱難的議題？

當時的現代詩已經頗有制度，許多詩人都有投稿《現代詩》這份重要的詩刊，有些詩人則是將詩作與戲劇結合。整體而言，台灣的現代詩、表演藝術和文學都發展地如火如荼，也深深吸引了我，但我還未全盤了解。當我完成博士論文時，我便獲得交通大學的教職，讓我對台灣的學術圈感到非常驚艷。而當我出版第一本著作時，我也很訝異能在美國獲獎；我根本不知道自己獲得提名，當時我問授獎單位：「為什麼選擇我的書？」他們表示：「因為書中其中一個章節是以跨國的架構來進行整體論述，妳不是單用西方的理論和東方的詩詞，而是從東西方共同錘煉出嶄新的知識。」

我目前任教於中央大學英美語文學系，除了擔任系主任之外，我也有教授寫作課、文學課和文學文化理論課程。從我1987年第一次來台灣到現在，我覺得台灣人愈來愈能自在地與來自不同地方的人交談，就個人經驗來說，我認為台灣社會愈來愈開放。我第一次來台灣時，經歷了許多台灣社會有趣的發展，也結交了許多朋友，並認識了許多學術圈的同好。我想，這些珍貴的回憶就是呼喚我再度回台的動力；就像是，如果你覺得這個社會充滿生氣和活力，而你也能夠參與其中、做出貢獻，我想這就是像家一樣的感覺吧！」

“I grew up in a small city in inland California called San Bernardino. I went to college and graduate school in San Diego. I got my PhD in literature. We were all expected to learn at least one language, so I did Chinese. I traveled to Taiwan with a friend right after I graduated from college in 1987. We came here to teach English and study Chinese for six months, then I traveled around Asia by myself with a backpack.

I originally wanted to study classical Chinese poetry. I got a Fulbright grant and I came back here. I started going to the poetry nights that were happening at that time. I met some of the modernist poets, and I switched my focus to the modernist poetry of the 60s, 70s, and 80s in Taiwan. I wrote my dissertation on modernism as a way of understanding the parts of modernity that are hard to know in the existing political language that we inherit. I think that experience in historical formation is always more complicated than the language.

These poems are not explicitly political; they're very experimental and strange. At the time, the modernist poets I met were mostly 外省, men who had been drafted and come over with the KMT, so they had experienced war and displacement, and a very intense and traumatic historical moment. People experienced it differently, and at that time, it was a hard thing to talk about. Later, I wrote a book about poetry, but I just focused on one or two poets I find really, really fascinating. And I was asking some of the same kinds of questions: how can these poems help you think about certain topics that are hard to think about?

At that time, Modernist poetry was a kind of an institution already. There was a journal called 現代詩, “Modern Poetry,” a really important journal that most of these poets were published in. Some of them combined poetry and theater. There's just so much going on in Taiwan in terms of poetry and performance and literature. It's just amazing. And I'm very interested in it at all, but I haven't kept up. After I finished my dissertation, I got a job offer at 交大. I thought, wow, there's something really amazing happening intellectually here. When my first book came out, it actually got an award in the U.S., and I was so surprised. I didn't even know it had been nominated. I asked them, ‘Why did you choose my book?’ And they said, because one of the chapters has a transnational of framework for the whole argument, so it wasn't like you used Western theories and Eastern texts, it's like the whole knowledge part is coming out of both places.

I currently teach in the English department at National Central University. I'm the chair and I teach writing classes, literature classes, and literary and cultural theory classes. Since my first visit to Taiwan in 1987, I think people are a little more comfortable talking to people from different places. In my personal interactions, I feel a difference, like a greater openness. Back then, there were so many interesting things happening here, all at one time, and that's the time that I happened to be here. And I made good friends in my personal life and in my intellectual life. And I think those are the things that made me come back: like if you feel that there's something interesting happening and there's some way that you can support it. I guess that's a way of feeling at home.” — Amie Parry

校長、師長、家長，和在螢幕前難以置信這就是我們的畢典，卻也真實面對的所有臺大畢業生，大家好，我是政治學系四年級的林語萱。

比起說著我們會鵬程萬里、前程似錦，今天，我更想邀請各位一同擔任NTU Sweety Course的貢獻者，整理出綜合過去四年，且能帶著走出校園的三個成長學分：勇氣、彈性和自己。

大二上，我休了學，在零下三十幾度的低溫、強颱般的逆風和看不見天際線的白色大地中，越野滑雪了半個多月，只為了跟著亞洲第一支南極長征隊伍，在世界的盡頭，找到那個能夠超越極限的自己。參與這個計畫，或許是大多人眼中的不正常，然而它卻成為了我人生中最有收穫的選擇之一。相信在臺大這個充滿可能性的校園裡，許多人心中，也有這麼一個想征服的南極，它可能不怎麼正常，也不怎麼容易，但別忘了帶著勇氣這個學分去做、去闖你認爲是對的事物。

再來，還有個學分，叫做彈性。還記得那些腳踏車被水源阿伯給拖吊，只好改成走路或騎Ubike2.0的日常嗎？我們在一次又一次的校內小組合作、校外的家教實習中，反覆上著適應不同情況的實驗課，而疫情又加重了它的loading，原本以為上一屆已經夠慘，沒想到這一屆竟然還更糟的情況下，我們滾動式的調整上課的樣貌，努力用NTU Cool的1.5倍速上課。在唯一不變就是變的這個世間常態中，臺大教會了我們保持彈性的生存之道。

最後，最最重要的學分，是我們自己，沒錯，就是在螢幕前的每一個你你你。從大一忙碌於轉系和雙主修的菜鳥，變成焦慮著左右張望他人下一步的大四老人，我們總汲汲營營的害怕落後別人，擔心無法成為自己心中想成為的樣子，但當回過頭，騎過幾千次椰林大道後的我們，其實早已不是從前那個自己了。所以未來，當外界的環境，督促和逼迫著我們精益求精，好還要更好時，記得回到內心，聽聽它的聲音，由它來告訴我們：你不必成為誰，你只需要相信自己。

除了勇氣、彈性和自己這三個學分外，還有一張加簽單也別忘記，是一路陪伴我們的家人和師長，一個人的任性，需要很多人的愛才能夠成全，謝謝你們在成長路上的陪伴和鼓勵，我們才能夠放肆的任性。

最後的最後，我想起了一戰後的西班牙大流感，它帶走的生命比戰爭還多，但在時間洪流下也終究有結束的一天。誰知道一百多年後的今天，我們也被迫參與了歷史的進程。也許未來看似困難重重，但卡繆在瘟疫裡提醒了我們：「惟有甘願在困難的堅實土壤中去生根立足，才能夠獲得果實。」今天後的明日，我們將在不同的土壤中勇敢挑戰、彈性應對和相信自己，且帶著滿滿的愛去生根立足，為自己、為我們所身處的社會，產出最甜美的果實。準備好了嗎？讓我們一起推動歷史的進程吧！臺大109屆的畢業生們，畢業快樂，或許現在的我們無法面對面相聚，but I’ll see you down the road！謝謝大家。

President Kuan, respected faculty, honored guests and family, and to my fellow NTU graduates who would never have imagined our commencement hosted in this way but still making the best of it, good morning. I am YU-HSUAN LIN, from Department of Political Science.

Rather than wishing the best and the brightest futures to us all, today, I want to urge each and every one of you to join in and contribute to NTU Sweety Course, and put together three amongst the most important credits from these past four years. They are courage, elasticity, and ourselves.

I took a temporary leave in my sophomore year. At minus 30 degrees Celsius, with howling headwinds and blizzards all over the sky, I did cross-country skiing for more than half a month, to challenge myself beyond the limit at the very end of the world. My Antarctic venture may seem absurd to many, but it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life. At NTU, a campus of endless possibilities, we all have a South Pole in our hearts, an undoubtedly challenging and perhaps laughable goal we yearn to achieve. But do not forget the credit of courage we have gained from these past years, and choose whatever it is that you believe is right.

The next credit, is adaptability. Do you remember the days when our bikes being towed and having to walk or take Ubike 2.0 to class? We learned to adapt through group projects in the classes and private tutoring off-campus, and the ongoing pandemic has added extra loading to our everyday challenges. We thought the previous year was bad, but this year is even worse. We adjust the way we took courses on a rolling basis, trying to catch up from NTU COOL at 1.5x speed. The only thing that doesn't change is change itself. NTU taught us how to adapt to survive.

Last but not least, and arguably the most important credit, is ourselves. That’s right, It’s each and every one of you behind the screens. From a first-year newbie busy planning your double major or transfer, to a senior wandering around anxiously as our peers taking next steps, we work hard painstakingly in fear of falling behind of other, and wonder if we can become the person we want to be. But looking back, after countless rides along the Royal Palm Boulevard, our old selves have already long gone. So, in the future, when the outside world is constantly pushing us to make the best even better and to reach beyond limits, remember to listen to that little voice inside of you. Listen to it as it tells you, there isn’t a certain or definite role you must fulfill, all you need is to have faith in yourself.

Besides the three credits I just mentioned, don’t forget the Petition for Adding Course: our families and professors who accompanied us along our journeys. It requires loves from many to accomplish caprice of one. Thank you for your company and encouragement along the way to allow us to be self-willed boldly.

Lastly, the Spanish flu outbreak after WWI came to my mind recently. It took even more lives than the battle fields. However, it too, eventually ended as time went by. Who knew that after a hundred years, we would also be a part of a similar history? It seems that adversities are awaiting us, but Albert Camus had already reminded us in La Peste “Like wandering shadows that could have acquired substance only by consenting to root themselves in the solid earth of their distress.” When tomorrow comes, in different corners on the Earth, we shall challenge, respond adaptively, and believe in ourselves. With each step that we take, we take with all the love there is within us. Let us contribute to ourselves and to our society, and may our efforts bear the sweetest fruits. Are you ready? Let’s push history forward! Hats off to all NTU graduates of 2021! Although we are unable to celebrate face to face now, I’ll see you down the road! Thank you all!

The most difficult aspect for this MV shooting was each scene was a ‘Oner’. All of the scenes were one-taker, it means that even if it’s only a tiny mistake like a blocking mistake from the actors, faulty props, delayed lip-syncing or me looking not handsome enough that would mean a total re-shoot is needed. It was so so so fking challenging… Luckily the 5 beauties were good in acting or else we would need another day to finish the video.

When I’ve done filming a few MVs in Taiwan and just got back to Malaysia, it’s kinda hard for me getting used to the ‘changes’ since there are so many SOPs and regulations for video production plus state-crossing is a total headache. I really do wish that the virus could go away ASAP, I still have a lot of work to do, please don’t play play ah…
