For those who did not make it to visit “the Hong Kong Story” exhibition before its closure, here are 10 photos taken from galleries 5-8, showing you some of the major events in Hong Kong before 1997.
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟐: A replica of the Treaty of Nanking - the Treaty was signed in August 1842, which ended the First Opium War. The Qing government agreed to cede the HK island to Britain.
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟑: June 1839 - destruction of opium at Humen
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟒: the First Governor of Hong Kong - Sir Henry Pottinger
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟓: one of the five remaining red colonial posting boxes in Hong Kong
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟔: the Hong Kong Industrial Products Exhibition (1969-1970) - it is more like the AIA Carnival 🎡
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟕: One of the Proposed design of the flag of Hong Kong after the Return to China in 1997
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟖: The Joint Declaration stipulates that after the establishment of the HKSAR on 1 July 1997, Hong Kong will remain unchanged for 50 years.

𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟎: Hong Kong will become better tomorrow- Jiang Zemin
Let’s see how the Hong Kong story will be told after 2 years.
“The Hong Kong Story” is officially closed for an extensive revamp for 2 years. Meanwhile, you can visit the museum starting from mid-Dec 2020 for the highlights of featuring Hong Kong’s folk culture and historical development from the pre-historic period to the return to China in 1997 at the exhibition - ‘Recreating a Classic: The Best Features of the Hong Kong Story’.

如果唔影低,可能以後都冇得睇。 To some Hong Kong people, the revamp of “the Hong Kong story” exhibition may mean future disappearance of part of the Hong Kong history. 把握最後兩日,睇吓19年前所記敘嘅香港歷史。
The museum of History was full of people just now, grabbing the last chance to take photos of each museum label and relics.
Maybe this is the only way to record the history and pass it on, in case they will disappear one day. Many parents bring their children too and explain the exhibit to their child.
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟏: people taking photos of the Flag of the British Governor of Hong Kong 香港總督旗
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟐: people watching the documentary in which million of HK people marched after Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989 to support the student movement in Beijing.
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟑: Countdown - return of Hong Kong to China
Thank you, Hong Kong people.
Just two days to go. Don’t miss it! Go early, there will be lots of people! Spare at least 3-4 hours. If you are running out of time, just skip the first 4 galleries. 預留大約三至四個鐘去行曬八個展館。如果時間有限,建議直接上2樓行展館五至展館八。約一個半小時參觀時間。
I am going to visit the museum again tomorrow. Say Hi if you can recognize me 🙈😏 I wish I had a better camera.
