It's often were impressed by Thai food but much less often, surprised by Thai food. Today we experienced dishes from @laylol.bkk, new delivery meals on the block, and although we anticipated good solid food from a great chef (Chef Mel Rujimora and team), we were absolutely taken back by the eclecticism of Laylol's recipe and flavour combinations.
The "Makrel rice" for example could be mistaken for a "Khao kluk Gapi" but there was no trace of the funky fermented prawn but from my guess; pieces of makrel, pork fat, sweet pork, "kana" vegetable, candle nuts, chili, shallots and probably a intricate mix of seasoning and sauces because the taste they manage to achieve, our entire team experienced nothing like it before.
Similar could be said of the Chicken Krapao and the (Not-so-Thai) Chasu and Mapo as we also learned not to be deceived by their innocent names and aesthetics.
Although these dishes may not be for your average Thai food consumer, they pack mighty tastes and go much, much deeper than your local Eatery. Some may even believe too strange for their liking but for us it was a blessing in disguise.
The only dissatisfaction we could find was with the Tongue Pad see-eiw which was on the sweet and greasy side but hey, nobody's perfect. Menu changes every 2 months so get moving! Scroll to last image to view menu. #BangkokFoodies #FoodiesOfficialAsia #laylolbkk @ Laylol BKK
