October is always a busy month for us because of the final year examinations for the big girl and all the party planning I have to do for all three kids. Since we don't go for any tuition and hope to remain tuition free for the coming years, it means I have to try my best in my limited free time to do some revision with the firstborn and hope that she finds her own motivation to keep working hard and strive to do her best in not just schoolwork, but in everything she does.
I can't tell you how many times I wanted to scream out loud or lose my cool, especially when we go through things like oral and compo revision, when she can't seem to read a good number of Chinese words that she has learnt before, when she gives up on a Math question and asks me for the answer before she even attempts it, or when she repeats the same mistakes that we have already gone through. It's not easy, really not easy, trying to teach your own kid and I totally understand the frustration. That said, it's also a learning journey for me because not only have I given back much of my knowledge to my teachers and need to relearn many things, I also realised I have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to being a patient, encouraging and supportive mum. I'm very thankful for this girl who has proven herself to be responsible, mature and sensible and it's also heartening to see how she takes charge of packing her schoolbag, revises her weekly spellings, jots down her exam dates, takes the initiative to do her assessment books in her free time and is always finding opportunities to pick up a book to read.
On the other hand, I'm also planning for the year end birthday parties for each of the kiddos and even though I try to keep them on a small scale, I'm still very much into coming up with themes, doing DIY decor and inventing our own games to play too - and there's always the food and dessert table to think about. For now, I'm in the midst of doing a spy party for the big girl and her friends because she wanted this theme and I must say it's tiring yet very fun to do too! Will share more about that soon!
Like what I always tell her nowadays, you reap what you sow and for all the efforts you put into doing what you do, you will get to enjoy the reward and that immeasurable sense of achievement at the end of the day. In October's "Happiness is...", it's about enjoying the fruits of our labour and looking forward to the exciting year end.

I know I am very slow in keeping up with all these precious growing up videos of the kids, like how this one took me over a year and a half just to complete, but at least I'm still getting there, aren't I? Haha. Amazingly, I had little time when I had two kids and now with three, it seems like I almost find it hard to breathe on some days. Still, absolutely no regrets because I'm triply blessed and triply happy!
The girls have been patiently waiting for their videos to be done while in the meantime, they kept watching and re-watching the old ones, which is pretty sweet to see because they will go "Awwwww..., I was so cute!" It makes my heart feel warm yet makes me a little tearful when I see just how fast the years have flown us by. It's so true, the days are long but the years are short especially when you witness your child's growing up and it strikes you just how much bigger they seem to get in the blink of an eye.
Anyway, here's the compilation of our fondest moments from Ariel's 4th year of growing up along with a heartfelt letter to this baby girl of mine. She was the first one I showed the video to and she was so delighted when she heard about it, never taking her eyes off the screen for the next 20 minutes while also excitedly telling me "Mummy, I remember this! I remember that too!" and never failing to laugh at herself at the funny parts. I love you so much, my baby girl, guess I can't call you that forever but let me do it a little longer, okay?

"I'm sorry that..... you are not the baby of the family anymore. You are the eldest of the three and people always throw you questions like "Do you take care of Didi and Meimei?", "Do you help your Mama?", "Are you a good big sister?" that even I feel it - that extra burden and sense of responsibility that you bear as an eight-year-old.
Sometimes, you come up and ask me for a cuddle just because you want to be close to me, you want me to call you by the nickname I used when you were young instead of calling you "Jiejie", and you even say you just want to be my baby always - and my heart aches again. You are, my dear, you are and will forever be."
I was an emotional wreck last night and penned this heartfelt letter to my big girl. It's been a trying period for us and I can only tell myself to try to be a better mum for her. My feelings were all over the place as I wrote this and even though I can't quite pinpoint if it is a good or bad thing, I think it's important for me to feel all of it. To let in all the hurt, the joy, the sorrow, the disappointment, the regret, the fear, the agony, the elation, the anxiety, and then tell myself to concentrate on the one most important thing - the hope. The hope for a better tomorrow, a better future, a better me.

LOST HCMC is located on the 3rd floor of Vivo City in Phu My Hung, District 7.
After this interesting experience, Nina, Seb, and Andrew and I went to Kichi Kichi, which is a popular chain found in many cities throughout Vietnam. Then we had smoothies or sinh to and went to Nina's family home for a surprise that wasn't very surprising. Then we visited Somewhere Land located at 61 Ho Xuan Huong, which is a fairy themed arts and crafts cafe with no affiliation to Harry Potter. Everyone knows I won that baking contest. Then an eel dinner with OldBoy where I swallowed a bone and went to the local private hospital (FV Hospital) which was not fully functioning so I had to go to a public hospital which was scary, but in the end they were able to help me immediately. Even for the emergency room, it was quite cheap.
