楊 一楽 for #GucciGram Tian
日本在住アーティスト楊 一楽（よう いちらく）の芸術は、光と交わる様々な方法の瞑想です。光を人生の源であり、潜在的に暴力が存在する場所としてとらえています。彼女の作品には、水平方向に飛び散る花火のなかで倒れる女性の姿や、背中を照らす強烈な光に痛みを感じて前かがみになる裸の男性など、ときにぞっとするような写真が見られます。しかし同時に、白とギンガムチェックのドレスを身に纏った女性が、まるで光を浴びることで重力に反して浮いているような、穏やかな作品もあります。楊がグッチのために作った作品では、日本の伝統的な刺青と、彼女がティアンに感じた「閉じ込められた野生生物」という感覚を取り入れて、光が用いられました。暗い空間の中にいる1人の人物と壁面にティアン プリントをプロジェクターで映しだしています。そこでは、壁紙という平面プリントと刺青という3次元の立体的なプリントという対比も見ることができます。- Alana Massey
Japan-based artist Yile Yang’s art mediates on the ways we interact with light, as a life source and a potential location of violence. There are grim images of a female felled by horizontal firework lashes and a nude figure hunched over in pain, a harsh glow illuminating his back. But there are gentler images too, like a woman suspended in air surrounded by speckles of light, seeming to help her defy gravity. Yang’s Tian remix is inspired by the Japanese tattoo tradition of Irezumi and the idea the print Tian gave him of “trapped wildlife.” Utilizing light, Yang projects Tian’s pattern onto a figure and the wall behind it, appearing as an allover tattoo on the three-dimensional form and as a flat print on the wall. - Alana Massey
