<2021 現代化十六講心得>

現代化十六講過去幾年也讀過 4-5 次了，第一次讀收穫很大，中間幾次就比較少，這次再讀又有很多收穫

伊恩莫里斯利用這四項指數來統計人類文明的發展：攝取能量的能力、社會組織的能力、信息技術的能力（社會組織成員每天交流、儲存、記憶）、戰爭動員的能力

第一項攝取能源的能力。伊恩莫里斯所稱的能源大概是從光合作用到石化、動力這種能源。但如果放到企業的角度，能源也可以想成資源或經濟學所稱的生產要素，包含：人、土地、資本

而後面三項：社會組織的能力、信息技術的能力、戰爭動員的能力，也許可以想成消耗能源的方式。放到企業，那就是商業模式的選擇及組織架構的組成

人類文明的出現跟自然資源有很大的關係，有興趣的可以讀 <槍炮、病菌與鋼鐵>，簡單稱為天時與地利。那一間公司的出現，第一步也要看清楚天時，然後盤點一下地利。張忠謀望盡天涯路，看見 Fabless 這個天時、Jeff Bezos 看到網路每年好幾倍在成長的天時、巴菲特轉控股收購，可能也是看見美國企業接棒的天時。看懂天之後要來看地利，我有什麼。張忠謀第二步是盤點台灣資源，喔我沒有設計能力、沒有行銷能力，但高品質製造的能力或許有。

最後是打造組織的能力。李祿說人類文明兩個最偉大的制度創新，第二偉大的是中國發明的科舉制。核心概念是人類理性上追求機會的平等。建立了提供機會平等制度的社會都會繁榮進步、長治久安。一間公司怎麼打造機會的平等，leading by ideas、expert leadind expert，而不是老闆是對的，就很重要了。而最偉大的制度創新是自由貿易的市場，這是亞當斯密觀察到驅使人類經濟進步最重要的力量，自由貿易的競爭下，產生各國間的比較利益，帶來分工，後交換產生 1+1>2 的力量。這個力量一直存在，從不會自己產生能量的單細胞生物吃下另一個會產生能量的單細胞生物，把他收服變成粒線體開始，人類的分工創造出 1+1>2 的力量就不曾斷過。而在這之上，李祿提出在 3.0 文明中，分工交換產生的增量又進一步被放大，這是因為人的知識是可以積累的，單純的商品、服務的積累不太容易，但人的知識累積是比較容易的，知識思想交換時出現的情況是 1+1>4。交換雙方不僅保留自己的思想，獲得了對方的思想，而且在交流中還碰撞出火花。知識自由分享，不需要交換，不需要大米換奶牛

知識產生 1+1>4 這個觀察，我覺得是這次重讀最大的一個收穫之一（以前讀過過去還有點 Confuse🤣）。今天的人類不斷站在前一代的人類肩膀上疊代。我們沒有付出勞動，只付出了時間，就累積了前人所有的經驗和教訓。而平常的交流，也不是以物易物的交換，交流結束後雙方不會因為我把我的知識說給你聽，所以我的知識就消失了。這個重大觀察，是驅使人類經濟發展可以指數進展的根本原因。而如果要我大膽猜測，我會覺得人類進展可能越來越快。如果越來越多人加入到知識共享的體系中、整個經濟發展從越實體往越線上轉移、社會分工越來越細的情況下，也許會加速經濟進展的斜率，當然這只是我大膽的猜測

既然知道 1+1>4 的力量很重要，那企業要怎麼設計一個環境、系統或文化來產生上述兩個制度創新，可能是導致未來競爭優勢強弱很關鍵的決定。要讓員工勇於創新，並對每一次的創新嘗試，不論成功或失敗，都要做好詳細的資料收集工作。

來看看 Jenesn 是怎麼在打造 Nvidia 創新的文化。"很多公司說創新很重要，但我不認爲創新可以用說的來孵育除非你有 risk-taking 的文化。我要鼓勵我們的工程師、行銷、所有員工去 take calculated risk。但首先你要教他們，這是一個技能，第二個部分是勇氣。大多數人討厭失敗，但如果你們想要成功，我鼓勵你們 to grow tolerance for failure. 但如果你不斷失敗，你可能就真的會失敗。所以重點是你怎麼教會一個人失敗，但是是快速的失敗，然後只要一知道是一條死路，馬上就轉換。而做到這件事的方法，我們稱為 intellecture honesty"。不怕失敗可能是要創新最重要的一個環節。自古人類在沒有人鼓勵下就一直創新，從穀物的育種到亞當斯密說的工廠工人。那為什麼很多公司就不創新了？也許是失敗的時候旁邊的同事、長官沒有給予鼓勵：黑，你超棒，只是找到另一種證明此路不通的方法。

再來就是資料的收集。成功地記錄下來，下次就這樣做、失敗的也記錄下來，給後人參考。漸漸的，就成為一套不斷迭代的方法論。聽說台積電的 documents center 和蘋果的 Design Guide Book 就是在幹這件事

最終，看懂天時、了解地利，也設計了可行的商業模式和組織架構（人和）一切看似美好。但要小心謹慎，因為天不斷在變動，地也不斷在變動。適合 1.0 文明成長的地區跟 2.0 文明不同。所以組織要隨時根據環境變化而調整

I took the online courses about the medical functions of the natural herbs that grow wildly in our neighborhood. I was fascinated with these wild grasses and can't wait to apply them in soaps. However, it's not proper to visit my relatives and grab plants from their farms during the pandemic.

Luckily, I found a small bunch of wild Mist Vine in front of my house. It's a traditional herbal medicine recorded in many ancient books, you may google to see how effective it is to the skin problems.

This batch was a test, so I didn't measure the exact amount of fresh Mist Vine, just put in all I had. I'll try some other plants and make more clear record next time.
