To my surprise after the first Roxy Pink guitar demo video I found this note from John Mayer in the bottom of the soft case. I'm showing it to you now because many accuse that it is set up. What a treat!! This video is from my former Berklee student!! One of blues ensemble. I taught him blues,pacing, phrasing, simplicity etc. Now he gave me back something here. Many folks may not know that my first Blues instructor was the Great Tomo Fugita! @tomojustfunky He tried to teach me the importance of phrasing, repetition and leaving space. At that time (being only 18) I was like “Naw, I’m just going to play really really fast and at the end I’ll hold a high note. It took me years to realize what he was trying to teach me. Oh well, better late then never 😁🤦🏽‍♂️ 🤦🏽‍♂️

Phrasing 中文叫做 造句 (字典 : 措辭)

簡單來說 當我們拿起吉他在彈奏的時候

其實就像我們用嘴巴開口說話一樣

一般來說 我們每個人日常講話應該都是很流暢的

不會卡詞 不會講錯話

甚至你很會講話 開口成金

信手捻來 成語滿天飛 讓人聽的如此如醉

but

你們有沒有想過為何自己講話可以如此"自然"

可是每當拿起吉他要彈的時候

災難就開始了...

首先你可能不知道要彈什麼 就像你講話不知道要講什麼

然後開始彈不久就彈錯音符 就像你開口就講錯話一樣

接著你彈的音跟曲子很不搭 就像是你講話文不對題

左邊的狀況應該很常發生吧

而右邊的狀況 日常對話應當都不會發生吧

是的 這就是因為 從你生下來在世界上的那一刻開始

你已經開始在學習怎麼講話了(Phrasing)

所以你可能已經學著用嘴巴講話20年 30年 甚至40年了

想當然 講話一定很自然阿 都養成習慣了 !!

那麼 想像一下你的吉他學習道路上

有沒有真的認真在學習 怎麼用吉他講話 ??

怎麼用吉他來造句 , 想想屬於吉他講話的詞

屬於吉他講話的語氣 , 態度 , 口吻

如果你一直都沒有學這些 那...

請問你到底都在學什麼 ???

這個影片是我幾天前拍的 , 是即興的

但是這段彈奏 我盡可能讓他聽起來像是編曲過的

呈現出來的 是有旋律性 有記憶點

並且符合這個音樂的氛圍跟感受的

當然有一些些音可以再微調一下

但整體來說 不知道你們聽起來

有沒有感覺滿自然的 ??

甚至會懷疑這不是即興 是我先編好的 ?

在此說明 , 真的沒有喔

我大概即興了幾次 就錄影拍下來了

只是我在即興的同時 , 頭腦都是有在想的

以下三件事情 是每次我即興都在想的

"旋律" "和聲" "律動"

也就是 "Melody" "Harmony" "Rhythm"

所以籠統地說 你聽到我彈出來的每個句子

就叫做Phrasing

而Phrasing就同時包含著上面三種融合的表現

這樣聽得懂嗎 ?

這段影片我打算拿來上課教學生

所以有來找我上課的同學們

可以自行先抓一下我彈的內容喔 (無論是Solo還是Chord)

"Phrasing advice: look for the harmonic minor note (G#) on the E7 chords. Notice how cool it sounds to play the dominant pentatonic here.
Also, pay close attention to how every chord has been covered. This is a changing progression, not a drone progression."
