We made a last minute decision to take the kids to Sentosa today after a family lunch gathering, despite the fact that the big girl had not completed her homework, their bags were not packed and I was having menstrual cramps. Haha.
Everything became worthwhile when I saw their big smiles on board the cable car 🚠, especially the little brother who loves loves loves ❤ cable cars and gets super duper excited whenever he sees them.
We used to get worried if he would fall off the seat when he looks out or fidget around and somehow injure himself, so either the hubby and I would sit beside him and hold him. Today, we just sat together on one side and watch as his sisters took their places, one on each side of him and kept him safe throughtout the journey.
I already know that the 8yo is a sensible big sister who looks out for him and dotes on him as much as a sister can possibly do. She is my firstborn and my best helper too. What surprised me most today was that I saw a sweet, mature side of the 5yo (yes, the little sister herself) who took the initiative to put her arm around the brother and asked him gently "弟弟, 你怕吗? (Baby brother, are you scared?"
When he didn't reply, she asked him softly again. This time round, he said "怕怕 (scared)" and patted his chest twice. He wasn't really scared but I doubt he knows how to answer in any other way.
The thing is, this loving middle child of mine wrapped her arm around him even more tightly and then she whispered in his ear "不怕, 二姐在这里. (Don't be scared, I am here with you)". I swear I could have cried at that heartwarming moment and this girl, she didn't even know that I saw, heard and felt everything.
For everything that has been said about the middle child syndrome, dear Ariel, I just want you to know you are a most awesome child and you make an adorable little sister as well as a loving big sister that anyone will be proud to have. And you mean the world to me too. I love you, my baby girl.🙎♀️
