Shang-Chi is number ONE at the box-office for the THIRD week in a row! It's made over $300 MILLION worldwide. What a feat in this covid era for any movie, let alone an ASIAN-LED one!

I personally am feeling so inspired from watching Shang-Chi!! I don’t think I’ve ever understood what (Asian) representation feels like until I watched this movie. Being born in and raised in the US, as an Asian-American, I didn’t feel like I belonged. I spent a lot of my childhood living a double life – quiet and reserved at school, and felt much more at home in a Chinese school.

I've trained in Wushu since I was 7 but it wasn’t until I watched Mulan that I got the courage to show people who I really was. I never want my children to feel that way! I love how Shang-Chi the movie represented all of those groups, North American-born Chinese, overseas Chinese, and Asian immigrants as a whole. The characters were so relatable – from the nods to taking off our shoes, to getting scolded about getting married to our most filial friends, to getting scolded about our job choices – and it showed how there is actually someone like me in the writers’ room.

Cheers also for including Indian Americans as Asian-Americans because they are. The action scenes were phenomenal and you could tell the cast really poured their heart into training and preparing for performance. And finally, in the end credits, seeing the first Asian superhero actually stand beside Mr. Wong, Captain Marvel and Dr. Bruce Banner aka The Hulk, just made me realize that, oh man, this is real. This actually happened. Let’s keep these Asian-led blockbusters coming!!

尚氣與十環傳奇已經連續三週票房第一！全球票房收入超過 3 億美元。在新冠病毒的時間點還能有這樣的票房對任何電影來說都是一項壯舉，更不用說是以亞洲文化為主題電影了！

尚氣這部電影讓我受到了很多啟發！！在我看了這部電影之前，我感覺我從來都不知道（亞洲）被再現在大螢幕上的感覺。我在美國出生和長大，作為亞裔美國人，我時常找不到歸屬感。我的童年有很大部分時間都過著雙重生活——在學校安靜又拘謹，而到了中文學校才有家的感覺。我從 7 歲開始練習武術，但直到看到《花木蘭》，我才鼓起勇氣向其他人展現真正的自我。我不希望我的孩子在未來也有這樣的經歷！我喜歡這部電影《尚氣》的原因不只是因為好看，它也代表了所有以下這些群體，北美出生的華人、海外華人和整個亞洲移民。這些角色是如此的具有象徵意義，可以產生共鳴——從點頭到脫鞋、因為嫁給我們最孝順的朋友而被責罵、甚至是被質疑我們的工作選擇——這看得出編劇裡居然也有像我這樣的人，我也為電影將印度裔美國人納入亞裔美國人的一員感到開心。動作場面真的非常壯觀！你可以看出演員們真的全身心地投入到訓練和準備中。最後，可以看到第一個亞洲超級英雄站在王先生、驚奇隊長和布班納博士（綠巨人）旁邊，讓我意識到，天啊，這是真的嗎？我不是在做夢吧。我相信未來一定有更多亞洲文化主導題材的電影！！！

「英國一直對我的從影生涯相當友善，我的《冰風暴》只有在英國賺到一些錢，當然了，《理性與感性》，拍攝該片時就像第二次上電影學校，當時我跟他們只能用簡短的句子溝通。

我給演員們的建議都非常簡潔、直接而且『誠實』，那時演員們還彼此角力，看看他們誰能從我這裡得到最無禮的評論(笑)。

不過我在英國的工作時光，獲得許多人的耐心及親切的對待，拍完《理性與感性》之後，我在他們身上獲得很多，我能夠更開闊我的視野，去挑戰各式各樣類型的電影，他們賦予我勇氣，擴展視野。對我來說，拍電影就是要透過這些敘事，將視覺、聲音以及景象反射在大銀幕上，才能透過真理敞開自我的心胸，這是我很高興能獲得此一獎項的感覺，因為這等於是被其他一樣貫徹真理的人們，獲得認可，對我來說，這真的是一個非常特殊的時刻，我將永遠銘記在心。」

“England has been particularly good to me in my career. Britain was the only market where The Ice Storm made any money.

“And of course, Sense And Sensibility, which was like a second film school for me – I could only communicate in short sentences.

“The comments I gave the actors were very concise, direct and honest. The casuals competing to see who would get the most rude remark from me.

“But my British colleagues were super-patient and kind to me. I owe so much to them because after Sense And Sensibility, I dared to venture into many other types of movies, they gave me courage to expand my horizon to open my heart. To me, that is what filmmaking is about the courage to open ourselves to truth through story, through sight and sound reflected on the silver screen. That's how I connected with the world, that's what I love doing receiving this award feels like recognition by people who connected in the same way. It's a very special moment to me, I take it deeply to heart.

經典電影《怒海潛將》主角原型：卡爾·布拉西爾(Carl Brashear)，美國海軍高階潛水員，1954年他成為首位非裔潛水員，在1966年為了尋找遺失在西班牙海域的B-28核彈，在打撈上岸的同時一次纜繩斷裂意外，掃到他的左腿而斷肢，為保住他的性命必須被迫截肢，但經過兩年多的復健努力，1968年重新認證為美國海軍的截肢潛水員，經9年服役後退役，2006年因心臟衰竭辭世，安葬於維吉尼亞州的伍德朗紀念花園

On February 25, 1948, at the age of 17, Carl M. Brashear enlisted in the Navy. Twenty-two years later, after losing a leg during a bomb retrieval, he became the first African-American to earn the title of U.S. Navy Master Diver.

The son of Kentucky sharecroppers, Brashear quit school after seventh grade, worked in his parents' fields and at a local gas station, and in 1948, determined to make a name for himself and see the world, joined the Navy.

He served on the USS Tripoli (CVE-64) during the Korean War and in 1954, despite being constantly taunted and even threatened with his life, graduated from salvage dive school.

By 1964, Brashear had become a deep-sea diver, the first African-American to earn the title. The 33-year-old who had always told his family and friends, “I ain’t gonna let nobody steal my dream,” had made history.

But on March 23, 1966, tragedy struck.

After recovering a bomb in heavy seas off the coast of Spain, a tow-line on his vessel snapped, sending a steel pipe flying towards him and his men.

"I was trying to get my sailors out of the way, and I ran back down to grab a sailor, just manhandling him out of the way,” he explained in an interview for the US Naval Institute.

"That pipe flew across the deck and struck my leg below the knee. I was way up in the air just turning flips. I jumped up and started to run and fell over. That's when I knew how bad my leg was,” he said.

For his heroic actions Chief Brashear was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. His left leg was later amputated, but Brashear, determined to continue serving his country, refused to leave the Navy.

He spent the next two years in rehabilitation, pushing himself physically and mentally to meet the rigorous requirements necessary to return to diving.

"Sometimes I would come back from a run and my artificial leg would have a puddle of blood from my stump,” Brashear later recalled.

"I wouldn't go to sick bay. If I had . . . they would have written me up. I'd hide and soak my leg in a bucket of hot water with salt in it. Then I'd get up the next morning and run again.”

In April 1968, Brashear became the first amputee to be re-certified as a U.S. Navy diver.

Two years later, in a final testament to his courage and perseverance, Brashear became the first African-American to earn the coveted title of U.S. Navy Master Diver.

Postscript:
Master Chief Petty Officer Brashear retired from the US Navy in 1979 after 31 years of service. He died on July 25, 2006, at the age of 75, from heart failure.

Brashear was the subject of the 2000 Hollywood blockbuster “Men of Honor,” in which Cuba Gooding Jr. played the hard-charging Navy pioneer.

“My father overcame five barriers in his lifetime,” said his son Phillip, who served in the military for 38 years, including a combat tour in Iraq flying Chinook helicopters.

"He overcame racism and poverty . . . he overcame illiteracy. He lost the bottom part of his leg and was physically disabled. He overcame his alcoholism, and in 1979 retired with honors.”

"He was the best of the best of what was truly American,” retired Master Diver J. Lamont King said at Brashear’s funeral.

Today we pay tribute to Carl Brashear, his family, and all US Navy divers past and present. We salute you!

數碼寶貝是我童年第二愛的動畫，這次看完電影版勾起了很多回憶！

這首歌表現的是一種勇敢前進，為了夢想一直努力的信念，人生就要不畏挫折向前。
充滿力量和節奏感的旋律一聽就讓人覺得熱血勵志，但不是過分正能量有點討人厭的那種；
而是陷入低潮的時候輕拍你的肩膀，沒有要馬上拉你起來的感覺。
累了就休息一下，倦了就躺一會兒，不心急也不勉強，好好守護在心裡的關於愛的初衷。

大家都是被選上的孩子，在長大的同時，那份熱血與勇敢依然在大家心中不滅，在社會發光。

Digimon Adventure is my second favorite animation of my childhood.
After watching the film for 2020, I was like going back to the time when I was a little boy!

The song is about some kind of courage to move forward.
Keep working hard and forward for your dream, even there may be setbacks on the journey.
Also, the powerful rhythm makes people feel quite inspirational, but it is not the kind of excessively positive attitude which is annoying.
It's just like patting on your shoulders when you are upset, instead of pulling you up immediately.
Take a break when you are tired, and lie down for a while when you are exhausted.
Don't be anxious and just remember to keep the dream in your heart.

Everyone is a chosen. While growing up, that passion and courage are still there and each one of you is indeed shining in your own ways.
So hope that everyone face this treacherous society with the dreams still in your heart.😄

《A Whole New World & Game of Thrones》（電影「阿拉丁」主題曲-嶄新的世界 & 影集「權力遊戲」主題曲）小提琴大提琴版本 | Violin Cover by Lin Tzu An and Cello by Wu Yo Yo of A Whole New World, OST of “Aladdin,” and Main Title from the “Game of Thrones”

我跟大提琴手登凱又來一個合作。
配合上星期阿拉丁電影的上映和權力遊戲第8季大結局，這週是主題曲週。

為了完美勾起大家的童年回憶，而且據說權力遊戲第8季大結局讓劇迷們非常失望，我跟大提琴手登凱決定再度一起合作cover，這絕對不會讓大家失望！

阿拉丁劇情背後其實有很深的意涵，其中覺得最感動的地方就是阿拉丁和茉莉公主改變了看待對方的視角，跳脫外在角色既定印象，而看到對方真實的自我，希望大家可以不要被社會價值或標籤所禁錮，可以跳脫刻板印象，做真正的自己。
「不必為了改變而改變，真心的人愛你，是因為你就是你。」（阿拉丁，2019）

這讓我想到，當初決定到街頭演出時，就是希望可以打破大家對音樂系科班學生畢業之後的就業選擇，我希望透過音樂，可以傳遞溫暖力量給大家。所以我選擇當國家音樂廳的逃犯，走下音樂廳的舞台，站在街頭和大家互動，拉近和大家的距離，拉琴給大家聽，希望大家聽到我的琴聲音樂，可以感到開心幸福感動。

這次拍攝cover遇到重重困難，凌晨開拍，但是才要拍就開始下大雨，

Here comes my weekly updated cover.

This week is the week for soundtracks : A Whole New World, OST of “Aladdin,” and Main Title from the “Game of Thrones,” both of which were officially released last week.

To perfectly represent everyone's childhood memories, and it is said that fans were disappointed to the finale of the power game season 8, I decided to cooperate again with my cello partner Wu Yo Yo, which will definitely make everyone satisfied !

I’m touched by the meaning behind Aladdin when Aladdin and Jasmine changed their perspectives, broke the stereotypes established and finally saw each other’s true inner self. May each one of you free from the stereotypes of social standards, be true to yourself and respect other’s uniqueness. ”Never change for the sake of change; those who are true will always love you for who you are” (Aladdin 2019)

This reminds me of my decision of being a busker. Instead of playing at National Concert Hall and being the best violinist, the expected career path from the society toward those majoring in music, I chose to performing as a busker, passing the healing power of music, getting closer to everyone, and sharing my music and the touching moments with everyone.

What would you do if you get Aladdin’s lamp?
I just hope ya’ll enjoy my cover.
Though I am not Genie that can make your dream come true, the only thing I can do is playing the requested song for you.

There were soooo many unexpected obstacles about the filming of this cover. It was supposed to film in the early morning, but started to rain heavily.
Due to the super heavy rain, the cover was delayed.
As for making up for not keeping the promise of updating my cover on time, here is another line I love from Aladdin “wear your smile on the face, carry your confidence on the shoulder, keep courage in your heart, and hold destiny in your hand.”

猩球崛起：終極決戰 (War for the Planet of the Apes), 2017

大家好，今天要介紹給大家的，是猩球崛起系列中的第三集，《猩球崛起：終極決戰》War for the Planet of the Apes。

片商在宣傳這部片的時候，是把它定位成三部曲中的結局。而在看完電影之後我們覺得雖然電影替系列中的主角凱薩Caesar的傳奇畫下了句點，但是卻埋下了不少伏筆，相信接下來還會讓我們看到這個龐大世界觀裡的其他故事。

這個系列的主軸一直都環繞在主角凱薩身上，透過他的視角讓我們看到了人類與動物（也就是大自然）之間的抗衡。人性的自大與傲慢除了導致人類的衰敗，卻也無意中造成了猩猩們的崛起。而凱薩身為這場地球上權力轉移過程中的關鍵人物，自己本身也經歷了非常多的試煉，這才塑造出了這個非常有層次與深度、並且和觀眾的心有著緊密連結的角色。

因此這一次的影片，我們不想只關注在第三集的劇情上，而是想要透過凱薩在系列三部曲中的經歷與轉變，來探討整個系列想要傳達的重要訊息，那就是『自我定位』。

我們曾在我們的第三本書裡，替許多電影中角色的成長過程定義了三個必經的階段，分別是：『自我探索』（Self-exploration）、『自我肯定』（Self-acknowledgement）、『自我超脫』（Self-liberation）。

『自我探索』，指的是在還不清楚自己是誰、不知道人生使命為何的嘗試階段；『自我肯定』，指的是找到方向之後，努力達成自己人生目標的階段；
『自我超脫』，指的是付出努力之後，能夠豁達接受結果的階段。

而猩球崛起三部曲裡凱薩的經歷，正好呼應了這三個階段。
