Feed Me Episode 3
Tourists visiting Sabah for the first time, tried out our local Sabahan food. None of them knew what was going to be served, watch the video and see their reactions when the food was revealed!
Food/drink featured in the video:
Hinompuka: Glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaf. When making this kuih, you can add banana or sweet potato in the main ingredient.
Tumpung: Tapai is also known as `tumpung ', which is glutinous rice that is fermented in a plastic bottle of mineral water or a bottle of cooking oil plastic bottles.
Linopot+Fried Basung+ Losun :
Linopot - Rice packed with leaves, lopot which means wrapping or fold.
Fried Ikan Basung: Local fried fish.
Losun: Losun is a wild spring onion that has a less pungent taste than normal spring onions.
Ambuyat+ Pinasakan:
Ambuyat: Sago powder mixed with water, texture is like glue. Ambuyat is eaten together with a dish as to replace rice. It is eaten using a double pronged bamboo stick or better known as ‘chandas’. The correct way to eat ambuyat is by twirlling it around a stick, Dip it into the sauce and swallow.
Pinasakan: Known also as pinasakan sada, or pinarasakan, this Kadazandusun dish features the basung fish, or a big-eye scad;
Tapai: Tapai and its variants are usually consumed as it is; as a sweet mildly-alcoholic snacks, to accompany tea in the afternoon. The sweet fermented tapai however, are often used as the ingredient in a recipe of certain dishes.
