One of the 99 names of Allah is ‘Al-Khaaliq’ or ‘The Creator’. It means ‘the One who brings everything from non-existence into existence’. Our children should know that God is the one who created everything, and it’s our role as parents to help them learn.

Keeping that in mind, we also need to stop and think. Is what I am teaching my children suitable for their age? Do they understand what I am saying? Or is it too confusing for them? Of course, even with manmade things like phones, God gave us the initial idea and resources to make them. But even so, children need to know the core basics of differentiating things God made and manmade things because their level is not high enough to understand such complicated things yet. We need to introduce it phase by phase, starting with the simplest things.

For example, “God makes carrots but we make carrot cake.” A 2-year-old can understand this easily. But not “Carrots come from God, and the idea for carrot cake came from God too, so therefore, God made carrot cake.” If you asked your younger children about this, what would their answers be?

Simplicity is key in making your children understand these things. If you give them anything too complicated, they might think that it’s beyond their understanding and isn’t worth learning.

For the past few days, many have shared their experiences of being bullied because of their appearance, race and things like that. Imagine that we all fully understood that God made us each differently but flawlessly. If we all had that mindset, would there be any cases of racism or bullying? Ali is not even 3 years old, and yet at his school, they have already discussed about diversity and how each person is equally beautiful. Again, with this early learning, our children could learn to respect others more!

In summary, this education of God’s creations and man’s creations is crucial from a very young age! Of course, as they grow up, you can begin to tell them about where ideas come from (from God) but once they have a clear picture of the basics, they will begin to see God in everything and will know that He is indeed ‘Al-Khaaliq, The Creator’!
