Tomorrow is Juneteenth, a meaningful celebration for Black Americans, especially those who are descendants of slaves and/or those who still suffer from the aftermath of slavery. My Black friends are rightly proud of what their people have accomplished in spite of the fact that their people weren't allowed to keep their original cultures. We who aren't Black should celebrate with them and be the best allies we can be. Our country still has a long way to go. Just because we had ONE Black president, it doesn't mean we've made huge amount of progress. (Mostly Black) voting rights are still being suppressed in many areas. Redlining is still a thing. The inequalities are too numerous to name. 歐盟委員會主席（即係等如EU嘅總理）Ursula von der Leyen今日就任致詞，講佢上任後歐盟嘅策略，關於對中國嘅外交政策嘅時候，提到香港，話某啲會員國無膽，反應慢...打咗好多人一巴。

//And there is no doubt that we promote very different systems of governance and society. We believe in the universal value of democracy and the rights of the individual. //
（毫無疑問，兩個地區係奉行兩套好唔同嘅社會同官治制度，我地相信民主同個人權利呢啲國際核心價值。）

//Europe is not without issues – think for example of anti-semitism. But we discuss them publicly. Criticism and opposition are not only accepted but are legally protected.//

「#人民的意志 是政府權力的基礎；這一意志應以#定期的 和 #真正的 #選舉 來展現，並以 #普遍 和 #平等的 #投票程序 進行」

Today is the #InternationalDayOfDemocracy, which was first launched at the 62nd United Nations General Assembly back in 2007 to raise awareness of #democracy around the world and urge countries down the path towards democratization. It also echoes the 21st article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was published in 1948:
"(1) Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
(2) Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.
(3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures."

Common started off the moving speech:

First off, I’d like to thank God that lives in us all. Recently, John and I got to go to Selma and perform “Glory” on the same bridge that Dr. King and the people of the civil rights movement marched on 50 years ago. This bridge was once a landmark of a divided nation, but now is a symbol for change. The spirit of this bridge transcends race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and social status. The spirit of this bridge connects the kid from the South side of Chicago, dreaming of a better life to those in France standing up for their freedom of expression to the people in Hong Kong protesting for democracy. This bridge was built on hope. Welded with compassion. And elevated by love for all human beings.

Then Legend took to the microphone, building off those sentiments:

Thank you. Nina Simone said it’s an artist’s duty to reflect the times in which we live. We wrote this song for a film that was based on events that were 50 years ago, but we say Selma is now, because the struggle for justice is right now. We know that the voting rights, the act that they fought for 50 years ago is being compromised right now in this country today. We know that right now the struggle for freedom and justice is real. We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today than were under slavery in 1850. When people are marching with our song, we want to tell you that we are with you, we see you, we love you, and march on.
