When Fuwa Fuwa turns into a classic strawberry shortcake......not for my family members but for a customer’s son who wanted to give it to his 大姑婆.
Been seeing an increase in customers who use roll cakes as well for birthday celebrations and I realized that I love to write Chinese and Japanese characters more than English words. Somehow it feels closer to the heart. That said, I’ve still got to practise more towards the goal of a calligraphy master haha

Hana by Inoue Yuichi
The Hana Series is a collective calligraphic masterpieces by prestigious Japanese calligraphy master, Inoue Yuichi. It is a valuable private collection, featuring the kanji character of “flower” in Japanese. Regarding Inoue Yuichi’s 100th birthday, Curator Karena Lam aims to bring hope to the city with this collection.
The word Hana means “flower” in Japanese. It is also the name of Inoue Yuichi’s daughter. As put forward by the artist himself, “Calligraphy is an action that reflects the body and mind movement of the writer or painter”, the artist created the Hana Series during 1955 - 1985, which is part of his stringently created works. Writing the kanji character in such persistent and repetitive manner is a way of meditation. At the same time, expressing his persistent and endless love for his daughter, wishing Hana, will bring forth strength, life and hope of a sustainable and blossoming future.
About Artist
Inoue Yuichi spent his entire life striving to promote calligraphy as modern art. The characters in his calligraphy contain a noble sense of spirituality and vibrant energy. Through consistent practice of simple characters, his works evolved throughout his life, demonstrating a unique aesthetic value as well as the artist’s state of mind.
