🤔Let’s say you’re hiring a publicist for your new nightclub. One candidate carries a Louis Vuitton handbag; another, an unidentifiable bag. You might feel the candidate with the luxury-brand bag is better connected and more able to promote the business.

🛍A large body of research has shown that luxury brands convey wealth, high social standing and power. Status is a central core of luxury-goods marketing. But two researchers at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management recently asked if wearing luxury brands can ever backfire. That is, might there be a social cost to flashing a Gucci or Burberry logo?

Research links kindness to a wealth of physical and emotional benefits. And it’s an excellent coping skill for the Covid-19 era.

It’s a good thing to make another person feel good. But being kind—doing something to help someone else—can help you, too. Research links kindness to a wealth of physical and emotional benefits. Studies show that when people are kind, they have lower levels of stress hormones and their fight-or-flight response calms down. They’re less depressed, less lonely and happier. They have better cardiovascular health and live longer. They may be physically stronger. They’re more popular. And a soon-to-be published study found that they may even be considered better looking.

And it diminishes our negative thoughts. “Our attention isn’t something that is infinitely expansive,” says Emiliana Simon-Thomas, science director of the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley. “What we are feeling at any given moment is related to what we are doing, so if we are behaving kindly, that experience will occupy our emotion.”

Four years ago, I decided to do things differently and humbly asked you all to join me on this mission.

5 schools later, here we are. All thanks to your kindness, 3469 student’s lives have been impacted.

I was blessed to go on a Pencils Of Promise field trip in Ghana to see our impact in person. It was everything I dreamed and more. It was absolutely surreal seeing our students and teachers. I will never forget the kind faces, beautiful smiles and grateful hugs.

When we build schools, we’re not just building a physical structure, we also build up a child's confidence, dreams and goals. We build up communities, potential and standard of life.

I hope we don’t stop here, if anything it inspires and compels us to keep building. There are plenty of underprivileged children who are deserving of quality education and water.

Big love to my Pencils Of Promise family for being super accommodating throughout the entire field trip.
