How to Have Peace with God?
“And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the Lord. If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried. Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.” (Leviticus 7:11-13 KJV)
How do we have peace with God?
Is it by trying hard not to sin so that He won’t be angry with us?
Let’s study the peace offering and what it represents.
There are three unleavened food items and one leavened food item in this offering.
In the Bible, leaven is a picture of sin.
Therefore, the leavened bread is a picture of us. We were sinners who needed saving.
The unleavened cakes mingled with oil, unleavened wafers anointed with oil and fried cakes of fine flour mingled with oil are all pictured of Jesus Christ at different stages of His life on earth.
Oil is a picture of the Holy Spirit.
At conception, the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and caused Jesus to be conceived as a human baby. This is represented by the unleavened cakes mingled with oil.
Unleavened because Jesus is sinless. Notice that all three food items that represent Him are unleavened—He is always sinless.
At the river Jordan, when Jesus was baptized at age thirty, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove and rested upon Him.
Then for three and a half years, Jesus went about doing good and healing all in the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit.
This is represented by the unleavened wafers anointed (applied upon) with oil.
Finally, when Jesus hung on the cross, the fiery wrath of God was poured out upon Him because as judgment for the sins of the world. This is represented by the fried cakes of fine flour mingled with oil.
Even at the cross, when God the Father had to judge Jesus as if He were the most wicked sinner in existence (He was carrying all our sins), Jesus was never more pleasing to the Father.
Even though He was fried, He exuded fragrance like cakes of fine flour mingled with oil. He was carrying our sins upon Him, but those sins didn’t go into His spirit. He was still pure like fine flour.
You and I, the leavened bread, received God’s righteousness as a gift, while Jesus, the unleavened cake, received our sins and was judged in our place.
Dear brethren, you have peace with God not because of your works, but because God was born as a Man, anointed by the Holy Spirit and completed His work of dying as the ultimate atoning sacrifice for your sins.
He was then raised from the dead and is now seated with the Father, far above all principalities and powers, never to die again.
This is the reason why peace offerings are for thanksgiving. We will forever give thanks to the Lamb of God, who took away the sins of the world!
