We Need Wisdom
“Receive my instruction rather than silver; knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it. “I, wisdom, have made prudence my dwelling. Find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power. By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule; nobles, and all the righteous rulers of the earth. I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me. With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; my yield than choice silver. I walk in the way of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of justice; That I may give wealth to those who love me. I fill their treasuries.” (Proverbs 8:10-21 WEB)
In the passage above, God’s wisdom is speaking. Wisdom is the number one thing to seek from God. It empowers a person to retain and multiply the things he has been blessed with.
Without wisdom, you will make poor decisions that cause you to experience losses.
In the New Testament, we learn that God’s wisdom is actually Christ Jesus:
“Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:” (1 Corinthians 1:30 WEB)
You can replace the word “wisdom” in the Proverbs passage above. When you seek Jesus, He will give you wisdom by leading you by His Spirit, and teaching you truths.
You will be led to do the right thing at the right time, and the decisions you make will be prosperous ones that lead to lots of good.
Those who seek Jesus and become wise will be good leaders too.
Compared to eternity, this lifetime is so short, like a breath of air. There is no time to waste by being foolish, bitter, worried, and fearful. Every day when you pray, always ask for wisdom, and you can be sure that God will supply it generously!
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5 WEB)
Keep studying God’s word and growing in your understanding of His ways. Our Patreon community is currently on a Bible study series called “My Faith Declarations” which looks at the Spirit-inspired utterances of the authors of the Psalms. They wrote about the trials and tribulations they experienced, so the book of Psalms is very relatable.
By turning their faith declarations into our own, we can learn how to overcome similar circumstances in life through faith in the Lord! Become a “God Every Morning” tier or above patron on Patreon to receive this reward, daily devotionals by email, and also all my eBooks. There may be times when the religious people you looked up to or learned from disappoint you by not following what they teach. They may do shocking acts or they may simply have flaws in their character. You may feel deceived, betrayed and let down.
I’ve spoken to dozens of people who have experienced this form of disappointment and they are heart broken.
I understand that it’s disheartening. We want to believe that our teachers, sheyookh and Islamic educators are above doing certain acts. We expect them to follow what they preach and do the internal work of purification of the heart so they don’t carelessly treat people with arrogance or apathy.
The reality is that no one is flawless. We all have our own set of weaknesses and shortcomings we have to overcome. They are not an exception to the rule. They are not perfect.
You can either get frustrated and choose to cut off from the community or you can learn from their shortcomings to become a better person.
I’m constantly reminded how easy it is to fall into the many diseases of the heart as I sadly witness people fall from grace one by one. I’m jolted into being hyper vigilant of my intentions when I see how easily someone’s intention can be tainted. I try my best to be watchful of how I treat everyone regardless of their status, as I observe the injustices and disregard of people without power or wealth.
Just because a religious person or a series of people have let you down, doesn’t mean you give up. Just because someone you trusted failed you, doesn’t mean everyone is the same.
There are many wholesome and upright individuals who are genuine in working for the sake of Allah. There are gems out there who are earnestly working on improving their character. There are honorable teachers with humble hearts and beautiful akhlaq that will soften your hearts. They may not be well known and they may have a small following, but their hearts are attached to Allah and not the dunya.
The most important thing is to carry the love of Allah in your heart and protect it from being tainted from the careless acts of others. Just because someone has a title or a degree, it doesn’t mean that they have it all figured out. They may be struggling with their own demons and insecurities that you may not know about.
Don’t ever hold someone in such high regards that their failure will have an impact on your faith. Separate your faith from the people. Instead of giving up or feeling depressed, surround yourself with those who can fuel your faith. Choose to listen to genuine people who are not obsessed with themselves or their fame.
I pray for our scholars and speakers who are tested with wealth, fame, women and excessive praise. I pray that Allah strengthens them when faced with temptation. I pray that they put as much emphasis on doing the inner work as they do in how they appear to the people. I pray that they are able to correct themselves before it’s too late because they won’t be able to plead ignorance.
Feel solace that Allah witnesses everything that unfolds and is well aware of the hidden actions and intentions of others. There will be a day when every soul will have to account for his or her actions and Allah will act justly towards everyone.

“The one who stayed away, saved all the rest” 🙏🏻 Yesterday I posted in my stories asking everyone not to panic but to be vigilant in these uncertain times. Remember that by protecting yourself you are also protecting others. Stay home, catch up on your reading, watch more movies and documentaries, write letters, try new recipes, FaceTime your other friends who are hopefully also staying home. This is not the time for arrogance. Do not underestimate your impact in society. If you won’t do it for you, do it for the people you love. We’re all in this together.
