“I’ve faced a lot of challenges until today, it’s not a glamourous path to be an actor as you think. It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes which you don’t see on screen.”
I love acting so much because it improves myself mentally and physically. Acting is not just an ‘act’ or ‘pretend’, but to really submerge yourself into the character and be that character but not lose yourself when it’s over. It’s really hard to achieve to that extent even though I’ve been acting for more than 2 years.
Acting is a dream I got from a Malaysian Singer in my primary days. I was watching Astro Star Quest (ASQ) final and one of the contestant from Kuching, my hometown, won the champion. He pursue his career from Malaysia to Taiwan in not just singing but acting too and got so successful. That time, I told myself I’ll be like him and meet him one day.
My parents rejected at first, as you know parents don’t think this career will bring you to any future. But as they saw my passion and hard work on it, they accepted my passion and are now supporting me on it. As for now, I’m planning to take acting courses to improve my acting skills as I’ve still got loads to learn and improve.
The worst pressure I felt was a shoot in 2017. My health was into the red-light signal but I still go on for acting. That day on set, I was totally blanked out and can’t focus on anything which resulted in a bad acting. The production was asking me if I was a first timer and I was in tears back in my car after that. But I told myself it was just one bad day, keep work harder and I’ll do good one day.
So far, I’ve been in a few commercials, dramas and movies. No lead roles yet but some of the movies I’m in lately is ‘The Spiral’ and ‘23:59 The Haunting Hour’. I don’t think I’ve make it big at the moment but if I really got a big break starring in a movie or drama as the lead actor then I think I’ve made it big in my acting career.
I'm lucky I've got my family, my friends and also a group of fans supporting me all the way to where I am now. You got to have a great heart when you start to venture into this career. A great heart means, you know this is your passion but not just want to be famous or earn loads of money. Because in this career, passion comes first.
When you have passion, you will be eager to learn with a great attitude and slowly gain better experience and slowly get into your big break. A great actor doesn't happen in one night but within a period of time as there is always a saying, "One second on stage, ten years of practice behind the stage."
