I’ve had a small discussion with some people in the industry to find the cause that obstructs someone (handsome) from getting into fame in modelling world.
First off, Thailand is a small market. They don’t have bonding connections like 華人 society where people speak the same language and share interests. As a result of the small purchasing power, international brands don’t pay attention to models just like they do in China. Also, people here tend to take European or Korean trend as a reference, so we are always followers.
What also stops people in Asia from shining is that they have a strict mindset which they feel obligated to take as a reference for we have lived in a collectivism society, while neglecting the fact that each of us is different. For example, you might have become an outstanding barber if you had chosen to, but people told you to be an engineer so now you’re struggling in a red ocean. Staying as a group is good but we have to look at the proper situation, not absolutely.
Though I’ve noticed some changes in recent years where young people become more individualistic. I admire this courage that is somehow inspiring to people from old generation. Anyway, I have always try to create things in an unconventional approach to celebrate the differences, because every life is precious. I want to be someone that helps make it worthwhile.
