征服宇宙!!
Not many bands would make the bold claim of being the worst band in the universe, but 八十八顆芭樂籽 88balaz have made a motto out of this throughout their 20-plus-year career. This also carries over to their ethos of making uncanny music with an earnest attitude; a no-frills approach while embracing the old school tenants of rock ’n’ roll.
Formed in 1996, the band’s Mandarin name (pronounced as "ba shi ba ke ba le zi" in Chinese) simply translates to 88 guava seeds. Lead singer Balaz Lee initially wanted to take a poke at a popular Mandarin tongue twister 44 Stone Lions (pronounced as "si shi si zhi shi shi zi"). The tongue twister not only gave the band a memorable name, but 44 Stone Lions also went on to become one of the band’s album names. Musically, 88balaz were inspired by the likes of Guns N' Roses and Nirvana, which made the band’s sound a thick blend of blues rock, noise rock, and garage rock. In addition, Balaz Lee has a deep and rough voice that he often screams with, which fits perfectly with the band’s sound.
Taiwan experienced a wave of rock music at the turn of the millennium. This was when 88balaz found its footing in the emerging indie music scene. Often touted as Taiwan’s take on Woodstock and Coachella, the Spring Scream and Ho-Hai Yan music festivals were important to the band’s career: They played for 17 years consecutively at the former and being awarded top prize at the latter in 2001.
After rising to fame at Ho-Hai-Yan, many record labels expressed interest in signing the band. Though these offers seemed lucrative, they also meant the band would most likely be given pressure to pursue a more mainstream and commercial sound. Believing that the band should maintain complete creative control, Balaz Lee turned down the offers and the band has continued true to their indie roots. Though the band released their first full-length album Tsao Bao's Ambition back in the year 2000, it would take another eight years for the band’s second release 44 Stone Lions in 2008. As with most up-and-coming indie bands, 88balaz was also a victim of members coming and going. It wasn’t until 2012 that the band finally came to a more stable line-up, as bassist Kuan Ling, drummer DongYu Lee, and guitarist Bluez Lee became permanent fixtures in the band. 2010 and 2012 both saw releases from the band, with two albums closely associated in name: Worse Than an Animal and Handsome Than an Animal. The first being a critique of the indie scene based on years of observation by Balaz Lee, while the second tackled the difficult and oftentimes emotional creative process of writing music. The single “Handsome Than an Animal” has also become a staple of the band’s live sets.
Balaz Lee has always brought a touch of dark humor to his lyrics, while also being outlandishly wild in imagination and on occasion intentionally ambiguous. Songs such as "Viscera Party" and "JIMI & MARY" demonstrate this perfectly, drawing praise from both fans and critics alike. To commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary, they released the album Punk Floyd in 2016. The 10 songs on the album each represent a chapter that adds to the fictional titular young punker's cynicism. The album not only marked the band’s maturity in its age but also demonstrated how the band was also growing more mature creatively. For example, "Sun Chaser" a single from the album that was made into a music video, paid homage to the late poet Leonard Cohen, building the song upon one of his famous line of verse: "There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in". The song and video went on to become widely discussed within the local indie scene.
88balaz has an extensive performance schedule, as the band usually plays more than one hundred shows yearly. They have played more than a thousand shows to this date, quite a rare feat for Taiwanese indie bands to achieve. Often thought to be a band better seen live, they have continued to craft and build a strong stage presence throughout their career. This is also evident by the fact that they won two consecutive Golden Indie Music Awards for Best Live Performance. The band also has a knack for alcohol and all things B-grade, derived from the term “B-movies.” Their passion for alcohol has led them on a special unplugged tour around Taiwan, playing at any brewery that was willing to have them perform. Extending the B-grade concept, they have also been promoting their own “B festival”, carving out a market for festival goers with extremely cheap tickets and lots of fun.
Aside from continued touring in Taiwan, the band has also embarked on numerous over-seas tours, with the most recent being the B Walkman tour that spanned from Asia to Europe. Even after so many years, the band has stayed true to their indie roots, while never straying too far from the DIY spirit that helped them build a bond with fans.

Thank you World Music Awards !!
Happy Birthday Shila Amzah
Nurshahila binti Amir Amzah is celebrating her 25th birthday today! She is a Malaysian award winning singer-songwriter, composer, musician, dancer, actress, businesswoman and record producer.
Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by a family of musicians, Shila began making music when she was 9 years old and performed in various musical venues in her hometown throughout her childhood. She released her debut album, 'Terima Kasih Guruku' at the age of 10. She started winning awards from then on, beginning with the Most Popular Kids Artist at the Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian. From the age of 4, Shila was already going to recording studios with her dad, a singer named Amir Amzah or more popularly known as ND Lala. She continued her singing career by breaking out to Shanghai, China and eventually won the Asian Wave (Season 1). As the winner of the Asian Wave (season 1) held in Shanghai, China, she won 5 Million MYR and a 6-year recording contract with Shanghai Media Group, the media company behind the competition. She became recognized as a solo singer after winning Patah Seribu as Best Pop Song Award and Best Song Award at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (19 edition). After she rose to fame winning the Asian Wave and second runner-up of I Am A Singer (Season 2), she was dubbed as Asia's Sweetheart, Princess of Music and National Treasure of Malaysia.
Shila was the first runner up of Bintang Kecil RTM in 2000, first runner-up of One In A Million (Season 2), champion of Asia New Singer Competition in 2008 and first runner-up of Anugerah Juara Lagu (29th Edition). She has worked with big names from the Mandopop industry such as Eric Moo where she was the opening act for his concert and is planning a duet with Wang Leehom. She also won a special award, the Kembara Award (International Breakthrough Award) at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (20th Edition). Shila won an award called "The Most Popular Foreign Female Artist","Best Female Artist" and "Excellent in Song Performance" after launching her single, Zai Jian Bu Zai Jian at Hong Kong. Before the Asian Wave, she performed a duet with Miley Cyrus called "Best of Both World" to promote Hannah Montana in Malaysia. Apart from singing, Shila loves to dance to Latin, Salsa, Rock and K-Pop. She has been interested in dancing even before singing professionally.
In 2004, she changed her name to Sha-Hila as her record company, EMI, wanted her name to be shorter. Later on, she joined the One In A Million singing contest and needed to make her name shorter. The organizer of OIAM2 truncated her name to just Shila. After coming in as the first runner up, she was called "Shila OIAM". She didn't like the name and so she added "Amzah" to her stage name, as her father's name is Amir Amzah. In Chinese's speaking country, Shila's name is Shira. Shila's fan base is not restricted to Malaysia, with a wide range of fans from China, Singapore, Hong Kong and other Southeastern Asian countries. She's currently planning her debut appearance in South Korea as her interest is in K-Pop. She also stated that she's a big fan of K-Pop and K-drama, and is a fan of South Korean boyband EXO. Shila revealed that she wants to produce at least one single in Korea in the near future. She is still considering appearances in other neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and Australia and even Canada and Las Vegas. To Shila, Skechers Sundown Festival would be a gauge if she would do a major concert in Singapore.
Recently, she stated in an interview that she will do a major concert in Hong Kong at the end of the year 2015.

Every Sunday morning I listen to Amber Au’s radio programme Urban Touch which is about all different small shops and businesses in Hong Kong: those selling spices, printing with letterpress, making baby-hair pens, creating wooden Buddhist utensils, cooking congee, making signposts, painting traditional banners, baking breads and cakes, fixing hi-fis and stereos, altering clothes, sewing shoes, farming, etc. Most of them operate on a family basis. I am very curious how do family members cooperate with each other? How do they inherit the trades from their forefathers and pass them on?
Eventually I invited Amber to join this photography project, and let her introduce the operators of these shops and businesses to join us.
Shooting is a process of learning. What are baby-hair pens? Why does the eldest daughter work as a barber in the morning and help the family business in the afternoon? Ha! Those baby-hair pens are made of her customers’ (the kids’) hairs! Obviously this eldest daughter is much more involved in the business. I therefore think there should be a person of focus in my photographs in this project. Will he/she become the successor of this shop?
For the congee restaurant, how will it carry on? The shop is run by an eight-year-old lady and her two sons, who are in their 50s or 60s. It will be closed down soon because of redevelopment. The family portrait I took suddenly became a historical photograph, and the old lady is the person in focus. So every single family portrait has one or two persons in focus. Each has his or her own story, but all are serious about what they are doing.
(Amber Au)
I always worried that I lacked the skills to take a good pictures when I did the shooting, because I thought these “family portraits” meant so much. Our subject included the shop as well as the people therein, as they have spent so much time with each other. I felt honoured to take pictures of them together. Shooting “Yiu Shing Kee” in Pak Tin Estate was most memorable to me as the shop had to close down soon afterwards. The photo I took became the Yiu family’s keepsake which embodied their memories. I gave the photograph to the old Mrs. Yiu after developing. She was so excited that she even gave me the shop’s tables, menu boards, bowls, plates and a small stone mill! I deeply felt the power of photographs and the perks of being a photographer!

The car model name of the motor bike (a small recreation motorcycle) which I please enjoy a new favorite car, change of the Mach number mom in the future, and Honda Motor produces it with the monkey (MONKEY) and sells. The form of the car model that I am most recent, and was released is AB27. With the gorillas of the sisters car, I am called 4MINI generally.
Up to release
Z100 type of a recreation motorcycle announced in Tokyo mortor show of 1961 was origin, and it has begun to be produced as a playground equipment of the amusement park which Honda ran at first. And the overseas export of CZ100 for a model change begins in 1964, and, as for the domestically public road run specifications for, development will be performed because I was popular in sale ahead.
MONKEY
Z50M type which was domestically first MONKEY for was released for 1967 years. I misappropriated the body of CZ100 at first, and it was constitution called リジット (I accomplish suspension) on 5 inches tire. The engine equipped with is the air-cooling 50cc single cylinder that followed Super Cub, and the valve mechanism is changed in OHC with a turnip by OHV of CZ100.
In addition, the tank cap which the fuel leak arrester stuck to assuming the deployment to the vehicle, a drain cook carburetor with it and the folding function of the steering wheel which was raised as one of the characteristics now were equipped with.
I take a change to make body constitution big a little in 1969 and equip it with 8 inches tire and a front suspension and I repeat a minor change afterwards and change it to the equipment and the block tire of rear suspension and the rear carrier. Changed gear 3 released in 1978 to a speed, and the improvement that was small after Z50J-I type equipped with a teardrop-shaped fuel tank was performed; only (changed gear 4 to a speed in 1984, and reinforced the engine, and 電装 strengthened it, and a pre-wire ring to be able to possess it attached the alarm kit which added a theft restraint function to an environmental standard in correspondence, 2002 in 1999 to 12V in installation of the set switch, 1992 in 1985, and the addition of the draining off hole to the headlight rim and the addition of the U lock holder to the rear carrier were performed from 2003); is approximately released as this appearance at the present.
It was the longtime seller which was next to a turnip in a sale career, and, as for the kind (except the color order car) of the body color released in past models, a special vehicle of the much production number-limited was released up to most, gold specifications (1984 .1996 year) by a Japanese motorcycle most.
In addition, the end of the production is made public from Honda in 2008 by car exhaust emission regulation reinforcement of September, 2007, but revival by the correspondence to the regulation is expected because it is a popular car model.
