The exterior of this place suggests little about the place- it does not have colorful entrance like any other Indian restaurants; the newly opened Mayura Kitchen at China Street has a simple, minimalist entrance. Step in the place and you will find yourself in a sophisticatedly decorated space- with simple but tidy tables and chairs. Mayura offers an Indian-fusion menu, while it is still heavy on Indian elements, there are some non-Indian dishes like Char Hor Fun, Hokkien Char, Fish and Chips etc. As confusing as it seems, the non-Indian dishes are only available for dinners. The lunch menu only features Rice dishes with curries (Briyani, Banana Leaf etc). The place has a surprisingly cozy-clean atmosphere and the prices are unbelievably affordable, definitely worth checking out if you are up for some Indian food.

The SPICE Kitchen & Bar has been around for a while at The SPICE Relau but it has recently opened up a new branch at Whiteaways Arcade, Beach Street (the lot previously occupied as The Bank). The food menu comprises of both Western dishes and some Indian delights; there are more Western choices than Indian options though. The place’s comfortable- fully air conditioned and tables are well-spaced; the atmosphere seems to be good for both a restaurant and a bar… with a huge bar counter displaying a wide variety of liquors and beer taps. While the place seems nice, the food quality seems otherwise. We had a few orders and most of them were disappointing (the Masala was under-seasoned/ the Chicken Varuval was a plate full of bones/ the Roti Benggali served together with Varuval was stale and dry); they would really need to step up and improve on the food offering.
