When planning for my Osaka trip I knew I definitely wanted to rent a kimono & it turned out to be so much fun! I booked my kimono rental via @kkdaysg & in the end I selected a store located in Kyoto because I wanted to be dressed up to visit the shrines in the area. There are kimono shops all over so it’s up to you to pick your location (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc...) depending on your itinerary for the day!

On the @kkdaysg page I could select either kimonos or yukatas - kimonos are actually worn during colder climates because they are made from a thick silk material, while yukatas are made from cotton & are worn in summer. Considering that we went in summer we should have picked yukatas, but I preferred the more luxurious & traditional feel of the kimonos. And also I don’t sweat easily hahahaha. But if you do, please note that you’re bundled up in about 4 layers of cloth so pick wisely! We saw most people wearing yukatas & design-wise they’re very similar, but it’s just visibly made from a different material.

Anyhow kimono rental will cost approx 50USD per person but there are upgrades to more premium designs as well as top-ups for accessories. My kimono is from the basic tier & I think it’s already beautiful! I did however top up for the belt accessory, as well as the hairdo + hair accessory & that came up to a total of another approx 20USD.

The outfit also comes with the shoes as well as the handbag (guys get one as well) & you get to wear the kimono until between 5 - 7pm, depending what time your shop closes! My kimono was rented through @kkdaysg (so I didn’t need to search through hundreds of stores & book an appointment myself) from @vasara_kyotogion; the store was a little out of the way but the service was really good!
