1981年英國國籍法

圖中為英國國籍法1981（British Nationality Act 1981)文本，雖然英國官方從來沒有正式承認，但這項法令的修定源於九龍半島界限街以北的租約問題。

1981年英國國籍法生效前，香港出生人士為Citizen of United Kingdom and colonies（CUKC)。新法例生效後，香港出生的CUKC被降格成英國屬土公民 British Dependent Territories Citizen (BDTC)。當時居於英國本士以外的CUKC，超過九成來自香港，而BDTC這個國籍亦是為香港的CUKC專門而設，其他英國海外領地居民於修例後獲得British Overseas Citizenship。

及後中英兩國於1984年簽署聯合聲明，香港人的BDTC身份於1997年6月30日正式終止。主權移交前，香港的BDTC可以申請英國國民海外護照（BNO)，並於英國撤出香港後繼續使用該護照。

However, the impact it is going to have on Hong Kong economy is anybody’s guess. He said that even if Beijing makes its move to tackle the issue of dual nationality, it is hardly possible to alter the minds of the Hong Kong people who have decided to emigrate, 'because this mass migration wave, in which plenty of them are leaving for good, is totally different from the one in 1997, in which a lot were planning to come back for money'."

Chun-Lok Tan is a Hong Kong footballer who plays for Hong Kong Premier League club Tai Po and the Hong Kong national team.
In 2009, Tan won a Dreams Come True scholarship which allowed him to complete his high school studies in Britain at the Brooke House College Football Academy with all costs covered. Tan signed a professional contract with Peterborough United in January 2010 after a six-week trial.
