On August 6, 1945, at 8.15am, tragedy struck and an atomic bomb dropped and killed approximately 140,000 people in Hiroshima. The ground temperature rose to 3000-4000 degrees and most people dead instantly. 600 metres up, where the bomb had exploded, it was a million degrees in temperature. The bomb survivors had to deal with the after effects of radiation (which included cancer and discrimination) and mourn the loss of their family, friends, and city. The dome behind me is one of the only surviving buildings, left in its derelict state in preservation. I cannot understand what can drive a person to such cruelty... Do all the people who build the bomb know what it can do? I suppose it is easier to kill so many when they are so far away from you? But the devastating effects years later still can be felt here in Hiroshima, where volunteers leave flowers on the memorials, keep a fire burning, and fold thousands of cranes... The word "Peace" is everywhere. Something we take for granted. Today Hiroshima has been rebuilt and it looks just like any other clean and beautiful Japanese town with nice and polite people everywhere, which makes you feel extra sombre to think of the poor citizens that suffered here not too long ago. 🙏🏻 #peace #nomorebombs #nomorewar
