When I was going through a rough patch with the eldest, the hubby reminded me "One day, she will be your soulmate." That was something that deeply touched my heart, made me hold onto and gave me strength to start over again.
Two days ago, right after her art class, I saw her practising her handlettering on a piece of paper and she wrote "My best friend is...". Alas, we had to leave before she could finish her line. On our way to dinner, I casually asked her the name of her best friend. She then replied shyly and earnestly "It's you, Mama". I will never, ever forget that moment and how it brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. (Okay, she did name a couple of her friends in school too after that but hey, I made it to the BFF list and that's good enough for me. 😀🎉)
Other than just being a mum to these kids, I am hoping we will always be best friends and they can feel free to tell me anything without having to be afraid of being judged or unloved. It's not going to be easy but I hope to get there, and stay there, one day. They are also the ones I confide in and share my ups and downs with, and I honestly can't imagine my life without any of them.
Thus, I cherish every opportunity that lets our family get together to bond and enjoy precious, quality time with each other.
