當初研究這兩家公司, 是把公司的年報看過一遍, 再把公司上市後所發表的財報結果全部看了一遍(doubt if I will do this again). 這樣的舖天蓋地有好有壞: 壞處當然就是很花時間, 但好處就是徹頭徹尾研究過一遍後, 之後就只要看看財報結果就好了, 也比較知道高層的想法. 而每季財報看下來, 其實會發現很多資訊都是重複的. 以後可能慢慢變成用聽的就好了.

(P.S. 大公司(道瓊股這些)其實不太需要做甚麼研究. 時間跟精力比較值得放在陌生or較小型的公司.)

而研究CRWD的時候, 其實也挺怕, 畢竟資安股不是我熟悉的領域. 但有感於資安越來越重要, 所以覺得一定要有突破. 當時也換了一種分析方式來做研究(不專注在科技上, 而是專注在商業模式, 管理層, 還有競爭環境上), 算是實驗性質. 也有懂資安的股友協助. 結果還算令人滿意.

Anyway. 這兩家公司的護城河都算是起來了, 未來應該不會有甚麼大問題出現. 只是目前正值類股輪動時期, 大家就有耐心點. 供參.

🌻了解"文化", 在研究消費性產品, 是很重要的一環. 這也是各地(亞洲, 或是美國)的投資人, 有在那邊的地利之便, 各有其優勢所在.

There’s a pattern here: Homegrown startups in the world’s hottest industry are beating the pants off global giant Amazon.com (AMZN) and Chinese heavyweight Alibaba Group Holding (BABA). Cultural knowledge is prevailing over scale, and Coupang (CPNG) offers some lessons on why. Its next-level delivery network—order before midnight, get it early the next morning—is adapted for a nation of dense population and small refrigerators. “Customers get hooked on ordering a carton of milk or tube of toothpaste,” says Yoojeong Oh, investment director for Korea at Aberdeen Standard Investments.

#MELI
Mercado has distinct advantages over comparable e-commerce players. First, e-commerce penetration in Latin America is a fraction of that in the U.S., roughly around 3%, Gautrey says. Mercado also has built out its warehouse, trucking, and delivery infrastructure—much like Amazon.com (AMZN), but with one key distinction. “Particularly when you go into emerging markets, relying on the nationalized postal infrastructure can mean a delivery takes several days to arrive,” Gautrey says. “Building out your own logistics infrastructure can dramatically improve the consumer experience. And then having that infrastructure also acts as a barrier to entry for [competitors].” The stock is up 178% in the past year, yet Gautrey thinks the market continues to underestimate its potential.

Happy 2021 everyone! I hope you’re all well and safe. I’m feeling sad for my American friends today. 😞

On a whole different topic, here’s some behind-the-scenes photos of my last project, thought I’d share...to perhaps distract you a bit from the news today (yup, I’ve been glued to it and I need time out).

A friend told me lately that he didn’t know my recent artworks on Uniqlo shirts were (1) made out of coffee, painted with coffee cups, chopsticks and spoons, and that (2) the original paintings are much larger in scale than they appear on the shirts! I didn’t realise I never mentioned about how I did these!

I’ve called this the Kopitiam Series. They’re all inspired by “Kopitiam” culture - humble Malaysian coffee shops. One of my faves is of the two “gossip uncles” gossiping and laughing over coffee - an occurrence you’d witness often in Kopitiams. Oh and here’s a little glimpse of the studio space I’ve been working in in KL since July last year!

Big thanks to Annice Lyn for these photos, and to Wilson Ng and Drewfunk for helping me stamp many coffee cups to meet the deadline for this project!

And yes, they’re still available for sale at Uniqlo Fahrenheit and DA Square in Malaysia. You can mix and match and customise these artworks on plain t-shirts and tote bags, and print them out on the spot. Have fun!

Ever since I first arrived at King Edward’s School, one of the things I always did other than find opportunities for writing, art and languages was get involved with anything to do with drama, be it Drama Club, competitions…you name it! Eventually, I found the biggest outlet for my interest in theatre - the school’s Junior Production.

For two years in a row, I was part of the Junior Production, a joint project between the King Edward's boys’ and King Edward’s girls’ school to put on a theatre production. A lot of people have compared it to West End London, but nestled right in Birmingham! The shows are always big scale, big on quality, and a great way to explore all the aspects of drama.

In my first year at KES, I acted in 'Around The World In 80 Days', a play about a man who is given a bet to travel across the globe in just 80 days. I played the Parsee, an elephant owner who helps the man complete part of the journey on the back of an elephant. Oh boy, I can still remember the amount of work it took for me to master the Indian accent…but I got there in the end! I also took part in a Bollywood dance routine - one of the roles that I am most famous for. On top of that, I played the extra role of a dancing octopus too! Yes, you read that right, I gladly took on the role of an eight-legged groovy sea creature!

The second year brought the play 'An Awfully Big Adventure', inspired by the story of Peter Pan. I was a grumpy old Park Keeper…who magically turned into a pirate on the trips to Neverland! This time around, not only did I have to practise a Northern pirate accent (an amalgamation of Scottish and Irish), but I also grew my hair out to sport a pirate look. Apart from chasing after Peter Pan, we also got the chance to show off our 'beautiful singing voices' with a few sea shanties. It seems there’s an ocean theme running through all of the productions, huh?

Unfortunately, with all the obstacles and restrictions that Covid-19 has brought, it was not possible to organise a Junior Production this year. This was a huge disappointment to everyone, since we were looking forward to this year’s production. My year group was especially saddened since this would have been our last year to experience the Junior Production - next year, we’d have to take part in the Senior Production, which has a much more serious and professional atmosphere.

But we weren’t going to let the coronavirus get in the way of things, and we were determined to have a production in some form! So instead, this year, we’re putting on individual plays for each year group. That way, we can enjoy the experience of a Junior Production, but still be safe in our own bubbles! The play we’re doing is called 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 and 3/4". Yep, very long title. But it’s a really interesting and funny play, and people in our age group can relate to it as well.

I’m playing Nigel, the best friend of Adrian Mole, the main character. We’re still in the early stages of rehearsal, but so far it’s turning out great. Yet again, we’ll have to put it on hold since we’re in isolation for two weeks now. But hopefully, everything will be back in action next month. Stay tuned to see what the finished product is like!

When writing this song, Jon and I thought about Jo Malone London’s best-of-the-best and how scent is such a personal journey. We each have our own hero Cologne. Of all their winning fragrances, Jon champions “Pomegranate Noir”, while my hero is the iconic “Lime Basil & Mandarin.”
This inspired us to write a song that interprets the journey of finding something we love and adore.

“Where’s My Hero?” tells the tale of a simple love story of a boy and a girl eventually finding their hero.

To mirror the playful and whimsy nature of the song, we needed the music video to be a stop-motion piece. So, we collaborated with Love Limzy Co. who designed and painstakingly handmade each set and prop that you see in the video.

To create the video, we collaborated with our trusted partner again, Cinemakers Studios who we have worked with on “How We First Met” and “On The Way.”

This is our first time doing anything like this, to this scale. The 34-hour shoot was physically and mentally taxing for all of us but the result... ?????. We are very proud of this and hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
