It is very interesting that we(Hong Kong people) always named a dish with a foreign country name. The Russian Beef dish indeed has no linkage with Russian at all. It is 100% old Hong Kong Style cuisine from 1950s.
It was made from beef slice, different bell pepper slice, cucumber pickles slices and rich brown sauce with soy sauce , tomato paste and beef broth . I always love this dish when I was a little girl. This is one of my favourite including the baked pork rice and minced beef rice. I ordered them in turns when I visited the old Hong Kong style Western Cafe during my childhood. Nowadays, not many Hong Kong tea rooms serve this dish in their menu. Therefore, I would like to recreate this recipe to share with all of you. It is worth to preserve such recipes and also our food culture of Hong Kong.
Russian Beef with Rice (old Hong Kong Style)
1 onion
3 clove garlic
1 bell pepper
1/2 green bell pepper
2 pickled cucumber
1 sirloin steak
3-4tbsp flour
Seasoning:
1tbsp soy sauce
1/2tbsp sugar
1/2tbsp potato starch
1tbsp oil
2-3tbsp water
俄國牛柳絲飯 材料:
洋蔥 1個
蒜 3粒
紅甜椒 1個
青甜椒 ½個
酸青瓜 2條
西冷扒 1塊
麵粉 3-4湯匙
調味:
生抽 1湯匙
糖 ½湯匙
生粉 ½湯匙
油 1湯匙
水 2-3湯匙
牛肉湯粒 2粒
水 400毫升

⭐ 這個叉燒一點黃 "鹹蛋釀腩叉" BBQ Pork Charsiu with Salted Duck Egg Yolk Centre HKD $148 🐷. The accompanying sauce is also very well tuned! 【喜萬年酒樓 Asiania Restaurant, Wanchai】One of the Signature must order dishes here for a while, but somehow doesn't get coverages any longer, at least not after Instagram was invented in 2010 😶. In HK there are only about 3-4 restaurants still doing this recipe, half of them shifted the labor intensive item off-menu so u have to reserve 1st.
The current-yet-old 喜萬年, is also very famous for their Roast Suckling Pig. Personally it's not bad but not as good as some of the best I am used to eating in Hong Kong, especially the lack of marination flavor or Roasting fragrance. Those were the good old days 😢..
•Quick question: Did anyone else used to go 喜萬年 years & years ago, when they were at Admiralty 香港警察總部 side? But even in later years in that old location, it was funny to watch it evolving. When I was a kid, this once considered upper end Chinese restaurant next to the night club, didn't even served mainstream Cantonese food 粵菜/廣東菜. Nor was it famous for their so called Suckling Pig 烤乳豬 as yet. The 'food cycles' in Hong Kong haha 😂🤔 But I am curious if any eaters remembered the type of original cuisine & recipes they used to serve here too, I do a little bit, so it's good to discuss with someone from that epoch! 睇下有無人係喜萬年第一代年代, 仲未開始 serve 廣東菜時嘅食友 🤭🤭?

Found in a retro setting, Dong Guan Kopitiam 東館茶室 appealed to the public, portraying a modern vintage Cha Chan Teng (Hong Kong-styled Coffee Shop) but serving classic, old school Malaysian dishes. The menu sees an array of familiar dishes- ranging from Nasi Lemak to Fried Vermicelli Noodles or Hor Fun... as well as some Toasts, snacks etc. Prices are generally very wallet-friendly but both the service and food quality are lackluster. The place feels cramped and it does not feel like a place for an enjoyable meal... probably more suitable for casual quick fix.

In this video I am testing out the Sony A7III at CP+ Japan. There are quite the improvements and you can just see it as an affordable Sony A9 for half the price, plus new feature of 4k HDR. The 4k got Rolling Shutter but it's not as bad as compared to the Canon M50. Using the camera was not hard and the menu also even though its in Japanese I was still able to change from 1080 to 4k fast without needing any support.
