"Peranakan", no doubt you've heard it seen it of late and no it's not a type of flesh eating fish but an ancient micro cuisine created by the Karim family of Punjub-Jawi Peranakan, six generations ago in George Town by four generations of women who continued its legacy and further evolution. Jawi Peranakan cuisine is known by the Malays as 'food for feasting', when you arrive into this house you immediately feel as though you've stepped into the Jawi House centuries ago.
But don't expect the "traditional" Malaysian classic as an international outsider has come to know and love, expect to have your minds and palates open to a world of spice brought by the Persian, Arab, Indian and Punjabi ancestory.
