How to choose a perfect foundation ~~
How to choose the right foundation for your skin tone
After hosting the show “All Things Girl”, I realize many girls do not know how to choose the right foundation for themselves. Their foundation is either too pale or too dark. They may end up with a very “heavy” look. Foundation is not supposed to change your skin tone, but it is to give you a smooth coverage of any imperfections on your face naturally. It is supposed to make you look radiant! Many artists, including myself, are searching for a way to create the best “nude” look, like the look that most female actors have in Korean dramas. And foundation is the basis and the most critical part in creating this kind of look.
It’s hard to find the right foundation color for our skin tone, because most of the foundations designed for black or white women are either with red or pink undertones. For Asian girls, we need to look for a foundation with yellow undertones. But note that not every foundation with a yellow undertone will suit you the best. Every brand has their own range of colors that they base their products on. So the best way to find the perfect shade is to try it out.
When testing a foundation, rub a few different colors on top of your hand. Then bring your hand close to your face to compare which shade is the closest to your skin tone.
Try the color that matches your skin tone the best, and blend it on your jawline.
The skin on the neck tends to be lighter than the face, so the ideal place to try out the color is actually on the jawline. If the shade on your jawline matches the color of your face and your neck naturally, then that is the right foundation for you.
Don’t throw away the foundation that doesn’t suit you!! Professional make up artists usually mix and blend different colors of foundations to reach a perfect shade! If you are a good painter, I believe you will be able to be a good make up artist!
Like me! The color of my skin can be very different during the summer and the winter because of outdoor shootings, so I usually have many foundations of different shades under the same range at home for me to mix the perfect shade each time.
So don’t hesitate to try and be daring, don’t just settle for any foundation that you can get at the store or don’t simply “borrow” foundation from your sister or your mom that doesn’t suit you at all. Spend some time testing out different foundations and you will eventually be able to create your most perfect nude look.
