仲夏。這個季節總是教人提不起勁去工作。我一邊喝著手中那杯Pimm's，一邊從露台望著那被太陽燒得蒸汽直冒的柏油路。我托一下墨鏡，蟬的鳴叫一直延綿到天空，白雲看來簡直就像可以一口吃掉的棉花糖。雖然已經進入全年最炎熱的季節，但我討厭整天待在冷氣房。坐在露台呼吸樹葉的氣味，聽著冰塊在杯中被攪拌而發出的清脆聲音，這才叫做「夏天」。

客廳的Hi-Fi 傳來Fiona Apple 的歌聲，她正懶洋洋地唱著Across the Universe，每次聽這首歌都感到自己好像飛上了太空，在漆黑的宇宙飄呀飄，遠遠看見地球像一顆藍色的玻璃彈珠。誰也不會猜到這麼高深而富詩意的歌曲，創作靈感竟源自一個嘮嘮叨叨的婦人！這首歌本來是由Beatles 唱的，John Lennon填詞。

想來已是近半世紀以前的事了，1967年一個晚上，John Lennon 當時的妻子Cynthia 整晚喋喋不休，John 睡在她身旁，心情煩悶到了極點，忽然像「boom!」的一瞬，這句子撞進他的心坎裏：「Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup...」就算妻子已經入睡，這句子仍不斷在Lennon 的耳畔響起。他把這句子寫下來，成了Across the Universe 的第一句歌詞，接著完成了餘下的歌詞，將它變成了一首歌。怎麼了？這件事把歌曲所有的浪漫詩情都一掃而光吧？奇怪的是，這首歌並沒有變成「女人你總是嘰嘰喳喳煩死人！」反而成了一首關於宇宙融和的歌，那喋喋不休的婦人是不是傳說中的「靈感女神」？

自從看過特首夫人唐青儀就女兒割腕一事斥責蔡子強「涼薄、刻毒」的片段，不少人開始同情梁振英。或許他也可以學John Lennon，受老婆的言論啟發而創造一件傑作。事實上，John Lennon 曾經表示這首歌的歌詞是他寫過最好的，即使沒有配上音樂，那詞本身已經是一首詩了。

我喝一口Pimm's，每一片樹葉的剪影都像雕刻家的作品，精緻地鑲嵌在地上，熾熱的陽光令人感覺眼前的一切有點不真實。夏蟬的鳴叫混著Fiona Apple 那稍微帶點沙啞的聲線，輕輕唱著：
「Images of broken light,
which dance before me like a million eyes.
They call me on and on across the universe...
Sounds of laughter, shades of life
are ringing through my opened ears.
Inciting and inviting me...」

多麼美的歌詞！而最有名的就是這句：「Jai Guru Deva. Om...」意思是「glory to the shining remover of darkness」，頌揚宇宙主宰之類的意思，很有點宗教性的味道。這本應是一首好歌，但我卻不大愛聽Beatles 的版本，就連John Lennon 也曾經在訪問中承認自己不滿意那首歌的錄音，他甚至坦言：「結他走音了，我唱著也走音了。沒有人支持我或幫助我，這首歌從未被好好地錄下來。」他說大家總是花很長時間錄好Paul McCartney創作的歌，但每當來到處理他的作品，眾人就變得散漫。那麼出色的一首歌沒有被好好灌錄確是有點可惜，據說在某段時期，Beatles 成員之間並不融洽。音樂就是這麼一回事，像一面鏡把人們內心的畫面徹底呈現出來。

每次聽到這首歌的chorus 我都不禁會心微笑，「Nothing's gonna change my world... Nothing's gonna change my world...」接連重複好幾次，簡直就像John Lennon用來麻醉自己的咒語，或許也是給天下男人的一種慰藉。無論老婆幾煩、幾長氣、幾難頂，nothing's gonna change my world。(摘自王迪詩《信報》專欄)
