To all the athletes chosen for the @RefugeesOlympic Team, congratulations - Including our girl, the inspiring @yusramardini!
The team was selected from the refugee athletes currently supported through the Olympic Scholarships for Refugee Athletes programme.
UNHCR has worked closely with the IOC as a partner for the last 25 years working together to support over 200,000 young people in sports programmes designed to improve their well-being and social inclusion in eight countries (Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, Rwanda, Turkey and Uganda).
The first-ever IOC Refugee Olympic Team consisting of 10 athletes had competed at the Olympic Games Rio 2016. The athletes have captured the attention of the world through their inspirational journeys and performances.
Each one of the members is a symbol of hope and courage for the millions of refugees around the world.
They will send a powerful message of solidarity and hope to the world this summer, bringing further awareness to the plight of over 80 million displaced people worldwide.
🙏🏻

SUPPORT OUR GIRLS #choosetochallenge
In conjunction with International Women's Day 2021, we are launching our online crowdfunding campaign - Fight for Their Rights of Education: SDG 4, SDG 5. This crowdfunding campaign focuses on expanding our work in empowering our refugee girls.
Why? Some of our girls need to quit school once they reach puberty.
We are planning to increase our capacity to conduct all-girls classes. We realise that closing the gap of gender equality goes hand in hand with the awareness and education they obtain, be it formal or informal.
Come and join us, to help our girls to be able to challenge their social norms. They deserve more than early marriage and adhering to the stay-at-home social roles.
Our girls have chosen to dream!

refugee awareness 在 Ainie Haziqah Facebook 的精選貼文
International Day To Protect Education From Attack is aimed to raise awareness of the plight of millions of children living in countries affected by conflict.
As someone who has been working with refugee children, education has always been an issue. They are being denied their right to continue education in the refugee camps or outside. Some of them are being denied because they have no permission to continue education due to stateless people status.
Unfortunately, for a large number of refugees, access to education is blocked by many barriers. This includes the lack of access to educational programs due to the inability to provide legal documentation, lack of economic resources and lack of recognition of previous educational qualifications.
I believe refugees should receive training, knowledge, maturity and experiences they need to become agents of change with the potential to contribute to their host communities, be the voice of their fellow refugees and someday, rebuild their own home countries. Yet, for thousands of refugee children in Malaysia, education remains an aspiration and a dream, not a reality.

The children and I visited Fugee School to attend in an exclusive workshop with 4 artist-refugees so we can use our artwork to participate in the #MYheartsRefugee inktober campaign to create awareness on the plight of refugees in Malaysia.
Thank you Deborah for inviting us to take part in this campaign and thanks Franki for being there with the kiddos so we can do this together. xoxo

One of the reasons why I make videos about Vietnam is to bring not only the culture and travel experiences of today, but to raise awareness about the Vietnamese diaspora in the past. Many of you watching now were boat people who left Vietnam or know of someone who did. If this is your first time hearing about the plight of the Vietnamese refugees, then I strongly urge you to do your own research on their stories. You'll be enlightened and you'll appreciate your parents a lot more. There were many Vietnamese refugee camps all over Southeast Asia after the war. One of the largest is here in Palawan in the Philippines. Today, it's called Viet Ville, and it's mostly a "Vietnamese" restaurant (with a Vietnamese cook) and some Pinoy people live there now, but most of the homes are just in complete ruins. If you enjoyed this video, consider sharing it with your Vietnamese friends, especially Vietnamese Americans.
