Saddened to hear that Panasonic will be closing its factory making refrigeration compressors here.
This factory has been here since 1972. In half a century it has produced and shipped more than a quarter billion (285 million!) refrigerator compressors all over the world. I personally had the pleasure of joining Panasonic to celebrate the production of their 100 millionth compressor globally in 1989, of which one-third came from the Singapore factory, then the second largest refrigeration compressor plant in the world.
NTUC Singapore and the United Workers of Electronics & Electrical Industries (UWEEI Singapore) will support the affected workers and help them to find new jobs.
We are deeply grateful that Panasonic believed in Singapore and journeyed with us for the better part of our history. Though this factory is closing, Panasonic’s refrigeration compressor global HQ and R&D functions will remain in Singapore. Singapore and in particular the Singapore Economic Development Board - EDB highly value investors like Panasonic and will continue to partner them to create jobs and opportunities for Singaporeans. – LHL

Foreigners who live and work here contribute to our economy and society. They are very much a part of our local community.
Yesterday in Parliament, Lawrence Wong moved a motion for Singapore to stay open in a globalised world. He also asked Parliament to support the government’s management of the foreign work pass numbers, and to deplore the spreading of misinformation about FTAs like the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) to stir up racism and xenophobia.
Our policies on foreign workers have created many jobs and opportunities. Still, Singaporeans are anxious and concerned about competition from the foreigners working here. We are addressing these concerns, and the problems caused by having a large foreign population in our midst. But as I said at the National Day Rally recently, we must remain open and welcoming to foreigners. If we turn inwards and become hostile to them, it would ruin us as a global hub and cost us investments and jobs (https://go.gov.sg/ndr2021-el).
The debate stretched past midnight. It was an important debate. At stake were not just our policies on foreigners, but the values of our society, and our confidence and resolve to face an uncertain world, and chart our way forward together.
I am glad MPs took a firm and unequivocal stance against racism and xenophobia, and firmly rejected attempts to use Singaporeans’ fears and anxieties to divide and weaken us. It bodes well for our future. – LHL

Ini baru betul “I Came. I Saw. I Conquer” 😂
.
.
Masa dia sampai di Singapore dulu, dia hanya mampu sewa bilik saja. Cerita dia gini..
.
Li ni dulu memang kaki game. Masa dia belajar Degree dulu, memang tak berapa nak pandai sangat lah. Asal ada masa terluang je dia gi cyber cafe main game.
.
Sebab dia tak cukup masa nak main game 🤪
.
So apa dia buat? Dia gi amik loan untuk sambung belajar Master di Stanford University US.
.
Masa di US, Li pergi graduation ceremony awek dia (kini wife). Waktu tu, Steve Jobs yang bagi ucapan. Dia tak boleh lupa kata-kata steve jobs “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”
.
.
Anak dia jawab “Taobao” (Kalau korang tak tahu, Tabao ni macam shopee lah. Tapi di China)
.
Mendengar jawapan anak dia tu, Li pun dengan nada bergurau kata “Ok, nanti daddy buat satu Tabao kat sini haha!”
.
Nak jadikan cerita, gurauan Li kepada anak dia tu jadi realiti bila dia buka Shopee pada tahun 2015.
.
.
Memang strategi awal Li dulu adalah mobile-first.
.
Jadi, apa strategy mereka di peringkat awal?
.
Aggresive Marketing – Mobile First – Zero Sales Commissions Strategy.
.
.
Nak tak nak, Li kena be very aggresive dalam marketing. Aggresive bukan bermaksud tabur duit pastu tunggu orang masuk web.
.
Aggresive bermaksud berada di semua tempat.
.
Tapi tak guna juga kalau buat marketing gila-gila tapi apps dia tak bagus. Itu datangnya pula Mobile First Strategy. Maknanya dia kena buat apps yang orang rasa senang nak akses melalui smartphone.
.
Ok sekarang dah buat aggresive marketing dan mobile first. So orang dah ramai install apps dia. Tapi masih tak cukup. Dia perlukan Seller yang ramai.
.
Bila orang masuk tapi tengok takde barang, orang tak masuk dah la. Ibarat kita masuk shopping mall yang takde kedai. Naya pak karem! Memang sekali je la pegi mall tu.
.
Kat sini pula datang strategy Zero Sales Commissions. Keyword : sabar)
.
Ibarat macam ni : Buat marketing gila-gila > Orang mula datang > Tengok banyak kedai dan meriah dengan pelbagai pilihan.
.
Apa jadi? Orang mula ramai-ramai masuk. Seller lain masuk lagi ramai.
.
Pengguna pula makin seronok sebab banyak pilihan dan bermacam jenis harga.
.
Customer’s experience meningkat maka shopee menjadi bualan (word of mouth). “Kau beli kat mana benda ni?” “Aku beli kat shopee jer”
“Kau cari kat shopee jer mesti jumpa”
“Aku tengok kat shopee la murah sikit”
Biasa dengar kan? Haha!
.
.
.
Punca awal dia yang best.
1) Kata-kata semangat Steve Jobs “Stay Hungry, Stay foolish”
Haha!
.
.
Satu lagi yang bestnya, tak susah pun kalau nak mula niaga kat Shopee nih. Mudah sangat nak buat side income.
Ramai seller kita dah buat sales RM4-6angka secara konsisten tiap bulan kat Shopee dan ubah life mereka masa pandemik ni dalam diam. Serius! Korang pun boleh.
.
Belajar dari A-Z, Basic to Advance.
.
Yang bestnya kalau korang tiada produk nak mula, No Problemo!
.
Biar semuanya auto tanpa ganggu kerja hakiki.. Kasi supplier je yang uruskan, korang monitor order masuk.
.
.
Menarik kan? Ok now lets go! We stay hungry, stay foolish!
Kalau tak bermula sekarang, bila lagi?

Work-from-home seems like the way to go until mankind finds a way around the pandemic. As some of you would know, Roland and I still hold our own full-time jobs. Both of us are working at home most of the time. Just like you, we like our meals to be easy, quick and yet still delicious on a working day. As we try to limit ourselves from going out too often, we usually stock our pantry with long-lasting vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots and onions. We love this Chinese style chicken stew recipe because it's so easy to cook and we have all of the ingredients ready in our pantry. Best of all, it is really yummy. You can have them as is, serve them with some steamed rice or even pasta - really versatile!
See the ingredient list below for your easy reference.
Hope you can recreate this yummy recipe in the comfort of your home. Happy cooking!
