Enjoy Happiness Now

“Not that I speak in respect to lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I know also how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” (Philippians‬ ‭4:11-13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Don’t postpone your happiness to the future.

“When I am rich, I will be happy.” Really? King Solomon is by today’s standards a trillionaire and he was not happy. Read about it in the Book of Ecclesiastes. He indulged in every worldly comfort and pleasure possible, and yet he concluded that it was all vanity of vanities, grasping after the wind.

Happiness is not about being rich or poor. It is about having Christ in you and with you.

“This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” (John‬ ‭17:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

As a believer, you know God not as a distant person, but a good Father who loves you and is on your side. To the world who does not know Him, He is still the Judge who punishes the wicked. They do not have the kind of relationship that we enjoy with Him.

Start enjoying your relationship with Abba God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit today. You can pray, and God will show you amazing truths, advice for the future, and help you with whatever you need.

A life without God is an empty life, like always eating but never being able to satisfy that hunger.

When you have Jesus as Lord, you have the Bread of Life, the living bread from Heaven to feed on. His words in the Scriptures, the Lord’s Supper, are true food that nourish you in many ways.

Perhaps happiness is having an unlimited supply of this heavenly food, so that your spiritual hunger is satisfied!

If you want to know God’s heart for you, you can study the 37 recorded miracles of Jesus Christ in “Messiah’s Miracles”. As we look at each of the miracles that were recorded in the four gospels, you will know Abba God better by seeing what Jesus does. The Impossible Exam

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans‬ ‭8:1-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

There was once a teacher who punished his badly-behaved class of students by giving them an examination full of the world’s hardest questions spanning across all subjects and disciplines.

“Class, if any of you want to be dismissed from class, you must get full marks in this exam. If not, you will have to stay back for detention every day. To give you all an advantage, you may discuss the questions with your fellow classmates.”

Everyone in the class attempted the exam, but even the smartest students had many mistakes. It seemed impossible.

The classmates were all frantically flipping through all the textbooks in the classroom, but it was no use. The questions were just way out of their level.

Just when it seemed that all hope was lost, the teacher said, “Class, I see that you are all trying your very best to work together to do well on the exam. Tell you what—I cannot cancel the exam, but I will join your class as a student and attempt the exam with you. There is no rule against me joining as a student in your class.”

Since the teacher had set the exam based on the knowledge he had, he easily answered all the questions correctly. To whoever wanted to refer to his answers, the teacher allowed them to see and write the same answers.

The students were all overjoyed. One by one, they copied the answers, and handed in their exam papers, scoring full marks. They were finally able to go home. They had learnt their lesson, and decided to be more studious in the future.

God gave the children of Israel the Ten Commandments—an impossible exam for mankind. The Law is perfect, holy, and good, but it was weak through man’s sinful flesh.

Whoever wants to be justified through the Law must keep the Ten Commandments perfectly in both word and deed. Anything short of perfection is considered unrighteous. Everyone fails this exam.

Then, God revealed His master plan: Yahweh the Son became a man to take the impossible exam on our behalf.

He lived a sinless life for thirty-three and a half years, and offered up Himself as our atoning sacrifice for sins. The blood He shed at the cross and His death perfectly fulfilled the Law for everyone.

Whoever wants to refer to His answers can just take His answers as their own and get full marks on their exam. When we place our faith in Jesus as Lord, we share in Jesus’ death, resurrection, and become a new creation in Christ. We are finally eligible to go home to our Abba God in Heaven!

It takes humility for a person to admit that he is a sinner that has no hope of deserving salvation by his own works. God is so holy that even one sinful thought can make you unrighteous. Perfection is needed. The way to be saved is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord!

「Suck」の使用はタブー？
=================================
　
英語の「Suck」といえば、本来は「吸う」や「しゃぶる」などを意味し、性的な意味合いもあることから使用を避けられがちかと思いますが、ネイティブの日常会話では、いかがわしい意味以外のスラングとしても非常に頻繁に使われている単語なので、今日はその用法について触れていこうと思います。
　
　
～suckの本来の意味～
　
suckは本来、「吸う」や「しゃぶる」、「なめる」を意味する単語です。例えば、「ストローで吸う」は“Suck on a straw.”、「ペロペロキャンディーをなめる」は“Suck on a lollipop.”、「私の息子は親指をしゃぶります」は“My son sucks his thumb.”と言います。その他、“Vacuum cleaners suck dust from the floor.”のように、掃除機が床のホコリを吸い取る意味でも使えます。
　
　
～日常会話で使われるsuckの意味と用法～

1) ____ sucks
→「ひどい / 最悪 / つまらない」
--------------------------------------------------
　
suckは「ひどい」「最悪」「つまらない」の意味でよく使われる口語的な表現です。例えば、「この料理は最悪だ」は“This food sucks.”、「この映画はつまらない」は“That movie sucks.”、「私の仕事は最悪だ」は“My job sucks.”のように表現します。一般的に“____ sucks”の形式が使われます。
　
＜例文＞
　
That restaurant has a nice vibe, but the food sucks.
（あのレストランは雰囲気はいいけど、料理がひどいよ。）
　
I don't get what the hype is all about. I thought that movie sucked.
（なんであの映画がすごく話題になっているのか分からない。僕はあの映画は最悪だと思ったんだけどね。）
　
My job sucks. It doesn't pay well and I have to work long hours.
（私の仕事は最悪です。給料は安いし、長時間働かないといけない。）

2) That sucks
→「それはひどいね / 残念だね / ついてないね」

“That sucks.”は「それはひどいね」や「残念だね」、「ついてないね」を意味し、不幸や災難といった悪い出来事に対する同情を表す表現として使われるインフォーマルなフレーズです。
　
✔友人のペットや誰かが亡くなった場合など深刻なシーンでの使用は非常に失礼にあたるので避けましょう。その場合は、“I'm very sorry.”や“I'm sorry to hear that.”を使うようにしましょう。
　
＜例文＞
　
The tickets sold out? That sucks.
（チケットが売り切れ？ついていないね。）
　
I can't believe your flight got delayed for 8 hours. That sucks.
（飛行機が8時間も遅れるなんて信じられない。ホント、ありえないよね。）
　
That sucks. If I were you, I would have complained to the manager.
（それはひどい。私だったらマネージャーに文句を言ってるよ。）
　
〜会話例1〜
A: I just needed one more point to pass! It's so frustrating.
（あと1点で合格だったのに！悔しいよ。）

B: Ah man, that sucks.
（あー、それは残念だね。）
　
〜会話例2〜
A: I was supposed to study abroad in Vancouver this year, but it got canceled because of the coronavirus.
（今年はバンクーバーに留学する予定だったのにコロナで中止になっちゃったよ。）

B: Are you serious? That sucks. Hopefully, you can go next year.
（マジで？それは最悪。来年は行けるといいね。）
　
〜会話例3〜
A: It was raining the whole time I was there. It was terrible.
（旅行中、ずっと雨だったよ。最悪だった。）

B: Wow, that sucks. I had a similar experience when I went to Thailand last year.
（それはついてないね。私も去年タイに行った時、同じような経験をしたよ。）

3) Suck(s) at ____
→「〜が下手 / 〜が苦手」

suckはスポーツや楽器が「下手」、学校の科目が「苦手」と表現する時にも使うことができ、その場合は“suck at ____”の形式が使われます。例えば、「私はビリヤードが下手です」は“I suck at pool.”、「彼は運転が下手です」は“He sucks at driving.”、「彼女は絵を描くのが苦手です」は“She sucks at drawing.”のように表現します。
　
ちなみに、「君は下手くそだな」と言いたい時はシンプルに“You suck!”と言います。“You suck!”は状況によって、「君は役立たずだ」や「あなたは最低だ」の意味になることもあるので、状況に応じて判断しましょう。
　
✔「（彼は）〜が下手」→「(He) sucks at _____」
　
✔「（彼は）へたくそ」→「(He) sucks!」
　
＜例文＞
　
I suck at cooking. I go to the convenience store or order on Uber Eats every day.
（私は料理が下手なので、毎日コンビニに行くかUber Eatsで注文します。）
　
He seriously sucks at driving. Honestly, he shouldn't be on the road. It's hazardous.
（彼は運転が本当に下手。正直、彼は運転しない方がいいと思う。危険だよ。）
　
Is she really a professional singer? She sucks. She can't carry a tune.
（彼女は本当にプロの歌手なの？下手くそだね。音痴だよ。）
　
I suck at cooking. The only thing I can make is cup noodles.
（私は料理が下手です。カップ麺くらいしか作れません。）
　
I suck at math. I never liked math ever since I was a kid.
（私は数学が苦手です。子供の時からずっと数学は嫌いでした。）
　
He really sucks. He needs more practice.
（彼はホントに下手くそだね。もっと練習しないといけないよ。）

4) Suck it up
→「我慢しなさい」

“suck it up”は「我慢しなさい」を意味する口語的な言い方です。特にグダグダと愚痴をこぼしたり弱音を吐いている人に対して使われることが多く、文句を言わずに「我慢してやりなさい、終わらせないさい、なんとかしなさい」といった意味になります。“suck it up”は必ずこの組み合わせで使われるので、このまま覚えましょう。
　
＜例文＞
　
Look. I know you're exhausted, but suck it up. We have to finish this by today.
（クタクタに疲れているのは分かってるけど、我慢して。今日中に終わらせないといけないので）
　
My leg cramped up during the marathon, but I sucked it up and finished the race.
（マラソン中に足がつりましたが、我慢して完走しました。）
　
Don't put off your project. Just suck it up and finish tonight.
（プロジェクトを後回しにしない。つべこべ言わないで言わないで今夜中に終わらせない）
　
〜会話例〜
A: It's too hot. I don't want to do this anymore.
（暑すぎる。もうやりたくないよ。）

B: Suck it up. We're almost done. Let's finish up.

1 year ago today, I went on a semester long exchange to study at Korea's Sungkyunkwan University #성균관대학교 for Fall 2020. 🇰🇷It was truly an exchange journey that really changed my life. I still can't help to think back to all of the amazing people that I met on this exchange, all of the awesome adventures exploring Korea, making the best out of every day in the 5 months that I was there for. That's why I selected A to Z of my favourite memories from August to January to show you guys why going on exchange can be so life-changing and it is definitely the best decision that I have made! 大學畢業後才突然發覺自己其實蠻適合當老師的，但我有勇氣開始修教程嗎？應該趁年輕去遊學看看世界，有勇氣把工作以來賺的錢全部拿去買一張機票飛到國外嗎？

甚至面對現在的自己，有勇氣停下來，轉彎嗎？

謝謝BoyUan學弟在這集節目中分享他如何在大三的時緊急煞車，接著轉彎的故事。

After graduation from the university, I suddenly find that I’m good at teaching. However, do I have courage to start the teacher education program? I should join a study tour to broaden my view sight when I’m young. But do I have courage to spend all my savings for an air ticket going abroad?
Moreover, do I have courage to stop to face myself and make a change?
Thank BoyUan for sharing his story of stopping and making a change when he was a junior in this episode.

みなさん、こんにちは！Hapa EikaiwaのJunです。母親が日本人、父親がアメリカ人のロサンゼルス生まれ育ちのハーフです。幼い時期から両文化で育ってきた僕は、日米双方の教育を受けてきました。カリフォルニア州にあるUC Santa Barbara大学を卒業し、交換留学で一年間、一橋大学で大学生活を送りました。その後、石川県内灘町役場で国際交流員として赴任し、２年間の勤務を経て、ロサンゼルスへ帰国、2011年に英会話学校「BYB English Center」をアーバインで開校しました。「言語と文化は切り離せない！」文化、習慣、教育、考え方から人間関係、双方体験してきた僕は、英語を勉強されている皆さんに少しでも役立つようHAPA英会話を始めました。これまで、英語を教える一方、自身は日本語を学んできた経験から肌で感じたこと・・・それは「言語と文化は切り離せない！」。だからこそ英語だけでなく、文化を取り入れた多くの表現、知識、ローカル情報をご紹介していきたいと思います。『HAPA』とは？混血のことをハーフやミックス（最近はダブルともいいますね）と日本ではよく表現されますが、ロサンゼルス（カリフォルニア州）では「HAPA」と呼ぶことも一般的です。HAPAは元々ハワイ語から由来した言葉で「半分」または「一部」を意味します。その名の通り「Hapa Eikaiwa」=「ハーフがお伝えする英会話」です！仕事のお問い合わせ： Email: [email protected] TEL: 03-5725-0226
