國立臺灣師大附中的歷史：
1937年4月1日，臺北州立臺北第三中學校創立於今臺北市信義路三段143號。
二戰後，1945年12月，校名更改為臺灣省立臺北第三中學，之後在1946年1月再更名為臺灣省立臺北和平中學。
1947年4月10日，臺灣省教育廳正式行文同意於臺北和平中學原址籌設臺灣省立師範學院附屬中學，此後，每年的4月10日即為附中的校慶日。
1955年，臺灣省立師範學院改名為臺灣省立師範大學，附中隨之更名為臺灣省立師範大學附屬中學。
1967年7月，臺灣省立師範大學改隸為國立臺灣師範大學，附中跟著更名為國立臺灣師範大學附屬中學。
1979年5月2日，總統令公布高級中學法，同時廢止中學法，因此師大附中校名於新的學年度開始時（1979年8月）隨法令更改為「國立臺灣師範大學附屬高級中學」，並一直沿用至今。
順便一提，師大附中國中部於1980年成立，當年招收新生六班；附中雖然在創校初期（和平中學時代）曾有過初中部，但於1961年因應「省辦高中，市辦初中」政策而停止招生，一直到1980年8月才再度開辦國中部。
