七年前我第一次聽說CouchSurfing（沙發客）這個網站，註冊後便開始歡迎來自世界各地的旅客來我家住。又過了一年多，我終於自己也首度嘗試到別人家去當旅客。
那時的我住在加州，和一位好友一起到西雅圖旅行後，打算自己一人再去波特蘭玩幾天（波特蘭是全世界素食最棒的城市之一，不知道的朋友可以查一下）。
我上CouchSurfing找到了一對情侶的家，抵達當天他們特地為我煮了純素晚餐，雖然他們自己並不是素食者。接著他們把家裡備份鑰匙給我，說因為我去的那幾天都是平常日，他們兩個要上班，但是歡迎我把這裡當自己家。家裡有兩隻超級可愛的小黑貓，而且雖然是「沙發客」，但是我可是有自己的房間跟浴室的，簡直是豪華版！
CouchSurfing是免費的，但重點不在於省錢，而是體驗人性善良的一面。這對情侶讓我體驗到了他們對陌生人的信任，也啟發我為往後來我家的旅客帶來更好的體驗（我沒有多的房間，來我家的旅客真的就是睡沙發，有時候還睡地板😅）。過了多年，這個美好的經驗我都還是一直記著，也實際用行動去把我收到的善意傳遞下去。
當社會充滿不信任和對立的時候，請不要忘記我們每個人都有能力去創造一個不一樣的世界。多年來我一直在努力的就是這件事情：創造不一樣的世界。而我也會把過程中的心得跟大家分享的。😸
p.s. 旅遊要注意安全，篩選沙發客也要留意對方評價、自我介紹、照片等，如果感到不安全就一定要行動，保護好自己。

💗Responding to distrust in the society with kindness💗
Seven years ago I heard of CouchSurfing for the first time. I registered an account, and started welcoming travelers from all over the world to my home. After a year of hosting, I finally experienced surfing in Portland.
I took a bus from Seattle there, found a couple on CouchSurfing, and stayed with them for a few nights. They welcomed me with a homemade vegan dinner even though they were not vegan; they gave me a spare key and apologized for having to work and not being able to show me around, but asked me to feel at home; I had my own room, bathroom, and two super cute cats to play with.
CouchSurfing is free of charge, but saving a few bucks isn't the point. The point is to experience kindness and trust from strangers. This couple inspired me to keep hosting and improving the experience of my surfers, and to keep paying forward.
When it seems like the world is full of separation, I pray that we don't forget each of us has the power to create a different paradigm.
p.s. just as how you’d use any other site, please use caution when surfing or hosting. Don’t be afraid to say NO when you don’t feel safe.
