2020 might have been a turbulent year but we still wanted to end it on a happy, positive and somewhat magical note. Yup, the year end is when I will host birthday parties for each of the kids and we come up with different themes depending on what they like.
Since we were in Phase 2 this year which only allowed five guests to be in our house at any time, I knew it would be a challenge to conduct birthday parties yet I didn't want to use it as an excuse not to do anything. Back in October, I asked the big girl - whose birthday comes first in November - if she would like to invite five of her closest friends over for a craft party. Even though I knew it would have made her happy like it did every year, she was so sweet to say "Mama, it's okay. You don't have to work to hard this year (and you are pregnant), I can do without a birthday party."
That totally melted my heart. Yet somehow, instead of purely feeling relieved, I began to wonder how I could still do something for the kids since their birthdays are always special to me. It was then I suggested that we hold a combined celebration for all three of them since their birthdays fall close to each other and that we could come up with a theme that all of them liked, could relate to and was excited about.
It wasn't long before the idea of having a Magic Party came to our minds since the girls picked up some magic tricks this year during the circuit breaker period and even the little brother was thrilled when we said that the kids could join forces to perform a magic show. So we put our thoughts into action and started creating their magician costumes, did up a 'stage', came up with decorations and went through rehearsals to get ready for the big day. I also planned a surprise for the kids by having Ian of True Vine Kids Magic to show us what close-up magic means which amazed and inspired everyone present at the table. Read on to find out more about what happened at our one-of-a-kind magic party!

We were brainstorming for the little sister's birthday theme and decided to choose something that she really loves - and likely every child will too. Well, okay, even I love it very much and I think you might too. It's something that reminds me of her and is sweet, colourful, addictive and yummy! Yup, we are talking about ICE CREAM, of course.
I was kind of worried that other than letting the kids indulge in ice cream, I might not be able to think of anything related that is fun and enjoyable for them to do. She then told me "Mama, it's okay, We can just come up with one or two very simple activities to do and that will be enough for me." Awwww. Yes, even though I plan and organise parties for each of my kids every year, the thing is they don't demand for a big-scale one and on the contrary, they are happy to just celebrate with a small group of friends while doing very simple stuff. Her words gave me motivation and even though our party indeed turned out to be a simple one, I could tell that she appreciated all the effort that went in and best of all, she had a BLAST.
Here's sharing more about Ariel's Ice Cream Party which was held on the very day that this baby girl of mine turned SEVEN.

Happy turning 7, my dear Ariel!
Yup, we had two parties in two days after returning from our family vacation. That's because the two younger ones are born just two days apart yet I didn't really want to combine their big days into one. I just wanna make them feel special on their big day, you know what I mean?
So the little sister got to invite some of best friends over, including her Primary 1 friends, kindergarten friends and childhood friends and have a cosy party in our humble home. She chose an ice cream theme and we did activities like clay ice cream making contest, achery shooting, tossing colourful pompoms into a cup, and a game of drawing where the kids were tasked to draw snacks, fruits and desserts for their friends to guess.
Of course, our ice cream party ended with an ice cream cake and lots of laughter from the kids. Besides the party favours which included a popsicle mould and ice cream pen, Ariel also gave out a huge ice cream balloon which she had helped to inflate (we blew up, yes blew, 10 of these! 喘!) to her friends to show her gratitude. She was so happy after the party and told me she had a good time and that she would like to thank everyone, including Mama. Awwww.
The best part was hearing fellow parents, who had dropped their kids off at our place for the party, messaging me to convey their thanks and tell me their kids said they had lots of fun and enjoyed themselves tremendously. That makes everything worthwhile, doesn't it?
Happy birthday, my baby girl. You love the sun - look at your tan!, you love outdoors, you love sports, you are adventurous and take risks, you like to try new things, your laughter is infectious, you are sweet and giving to your little brother, you love your big sister despite all the bickers and you are just a gem that is so, so precious in our lives. We love you to the moon and back many times, stay happy, healthy and fun-loving always!
