Lai Yee's Kitchen- Bubur Cha-cha aka bobochacha 摩摩喳喳
Today marks 13 years since my Poh Poh passed away. In honor of her, I am cooking this to remember her amazing tong shui soup. She cooked us loads of soup, tong shui (sweet dessert soup) and all kinds of Chinese food. One of the reasons why I enjoy cooking a lot as she was one of my inspirations and guru in cooking.
This is the first time I tried cooking this famous Nyonya's dessert BoBoChaCha 摩摩喳喳 aka Bubur Cha-cha.
The dish is pronounced “bo bo cha cha” or “mo mo cha cha“. In Malay, “bubur” means “porridge”, and “cha cha” means “well”. ... Each region has a variation of Bubur Cha Cha: some include banana, black eyed peas, colourful tapioca jellies, or yam. It is popular in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines too.
INGREDIENTS
• Sweet Potato 1kg
• Yam 1/2 kg
• Bananas 2 pcs (big size) or 4 small size
• Sago 1 cup or more
• Coconut Milk 3 to 4 cups (depending on the pot size)
• Pandan Leaves 8pcs (4 for color, 4 for soup)
• Water 3 litres
• Evaporated Milk 1 can
Potato Dough:
• Tapioca Flour 60g each bowl/colour
• Hot boiling Water 30g each bowl
• Food colouring or natural colour(which u can make)
「SEASONING」
• A pinch of Salt (it is up to u to add)
• 4 to 6 pcs Gula Melaka or Palm Sugar
I really love bobochacha.. it is like an all-time favourite dessert for many of us.
This is my first time but definitely not the last time. I want to keep on trying to make the best version. I like this one, but i believe i can make fun chewy tapioca to add in. Let's see what I can create soon.

Previously occupied by Xian Wei Restaurant, the same lot was took over by Ming Roasted Fish 茗厨烤鱼盘私房菜. The place is hard to miss- a prominent corner unit along Terengganu Road, right opposite to a Chinese temple. As suggested by the restaurant name, Ming Roasted Fish is a place dedicated to offer Roasted Fish (Chinese-styled Fried Fish served over boiling soup/ hotpot method) as well as some familiar local Chu Char dishes. Fully air-conditioned restaurant with comfortable seating arrangement but price points are on the higher side (we took advantage on the soft-opening promo/ promo ended on 30 Sept 2020).

一茶匙幼鹽 1tsp Table salt
七十克冰糖 70g Rock sugar
半茶匙黑椒碎 1/2 tsp ground pepper
六粒蒜頭 6 cloves of Garlic
兩片薑 2 slices of Ginger
五粒紅蔥頭 5 Shallots
半隻紅甜椒/指天椒 1/2 Sweet chilli/ bird's eye chilli

1 tbsp Chicken Stock Powder, Chinese-style
3 tbsp Sake
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tbsp Sugar
1 Dried Red Chili Pepper
1 Garlic Clove, grated
- Chicken Meatballs -
200g Ground Chicken (7.1 oz)
1/4 tsp Salt
Pepper
1/2 tbsp Sake
20g Ginger Root, grated (0.7 oz)
60g Long Green Onion, chopped (2.1 oz)
1 tbsp Potato Starch
100g Extra-Thin Pork Slices, for shabu-shabu (3.5 oz)
1 Aburaage, thin deep-fried tofu
3-4 Cabbage Leaves
1 Long Green Onion
1 bundle of Garlic Chives
1-2 tbsp Toasted White Sesame Seeds, ground
Sesame Oil
- To finish off the rest of the broth -
1 package of Fresh Ramen Noodles, cooked for a little less time and coated with sesame oil

Shrimp and Corn Stir-Fry
Mix up shrimp and A (cooking sake and potato starch) well (thaw frozen shrimp via running water and dry with paper towels )
Slice garlic thinly, shave fresh corn off the cob, cut zucchini and onion 1cm thick.
①Stir butter(salted) and garlic into the preheated pan on low heat until garlic is fragrant. Add shrimp and corn, and stir on medium heat until the shrimp are pink.
②Add zucchini and onion and stir high heat until golden brown, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
③Pour soy source and lemon juice evenly and toss to combine.
Serve immediately, garnish with coriander leaves, if desired.
