Don Salubayba is one of the most incredible artists I have ever met
Whether it paint or sculpture or animation or shadow puppetry or children’s literature (or whatever medium he’s decided to immerse himself in at current time), Don's made a career of combining brutal honesty with obscene imagination and it’s always fuckin exciting. Honestly, just do a google image search of DON SALUBAYBA and marinate on the awesomeness
His work has been shown and awarded internationally, including residencies and exhibits in: Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the US and of course, the Philippines. And despite these accolades and opportunities, Don never lost his footing from what’s important
What has always impressed me most about Don, is Don. His person. The husband. The father. The teacher. The brother. The son. He understands that being an artist is only ONE of the hats he wears, and as such, he’s somehow managed to maintain his sincerity, good spirit and love in an industry that is generally anything but. It’s that ability to juggle all these roles, while still accomplishing all he has that really gets me. Feats I can only hope to one day mimic. Truly a 1 of 1
