Tin Hau’s real name is Lin Mo 林默.⁣
She is a chinese lady from Putin, FuKien 福建莆田 who had the ability to forecast the weather. She was deified after her death as Tin Hau, also known as the goddess of the sea, and widely worshipped by fishermen, seafarers and merchants throughout coastal regions in Southeast Asia. In Hong Kong, There are more than 70 temples dedicated to Tin Hau to pray for safety .⁣

The best time to visit Kek Lok Si is during the Chinese New Year celebrations, when the temple is adorned with thousands of bright hanging lanterns. At other times, there is still much to see, with prayer halls, pagodas, bell towers and a tortoise pond topping the list. ⁣

Built since the year 1891, Kek Lok Si Temple situated in the island of Penang, Malaysia, is one of the largest and finest temples complexes in Southeast Asia.⁣

With millions of magnificent images of Buddha and hundreds of beautiful meaningful carvings, sculptures and murals in the interior and exterior of the temple halls, pagodas and archways, Kek Lok Si Temple is not just a center for Chinese culture and Buddha teaching, but also an unique heritage treasures that have Mahayana Buddhism and traditional Chinese rituals blend into a harmonious whole, in temple architecture and daily activities of worshipers.⁣

Its main draw is the striking seven-storey Pagoda of Rama VI (Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas). Boasting 10,000 alabaster and bronze statues of Buddha, its design symbolises the harmony between Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism, marrying a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, topped by a Burmese crown. One can climb to the top of the pagoda via a steep flight of stairs and be rewarded with a great view of Penang. The 30.2m bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, is yet another popular highlight. ⁣

Thean Hou Temple is one of the oldest and largest temples in Southeast Asia. Overlooking the Federal highway, the six-tiered Buddhist temple is also known as the Temple of the Goddess of Heaven.⁣
Dedicated to Tian Hou, a goddess said to protect fishermen, the temple is also a shrine where many come to worship Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. Built by KL’s Hainanese community in 1894, it is set on a hill and offers wonderful views of the city.⁣
The temple also features a Chinese medicinal herbs garden and a tortoise pond along with a well; beside the temple is a sacred Boddhi tree⁣

Thean Hou Temple is a popular wedding venue among KL’s Chinese locals and even conducts fortune telling readings as well as traditional Chinese exercise and martial arts activities.⁣

According to the 2016 InterNations Expat Insider Survey, Beijing ranked first in Asia in the subcategory "Personal Finance Index," a measure of expats' salaries versus cost of living in the city. Expats live primarily in the east, in urban districts such as Dongcheng and Chaoyang, or in suburban districts such as Shunyi.
