I didn’t meet my father until I was 6 years old. My parents had a comfortable, middle-class life in Shanghai, or as close as you could get under communism. But they always wanted to live overseas, and just before I was born, my dad came to Sydney to set things up. I don’t know why, but in the end, my mother and I didn’t join him until I was 6.
•a middle-class life 中產階級生活
•set things up 打點一切
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Unfortunately, half a year after we arrived, he left us. That was a huge shock. Our transition had already been quite difficult, as we both didn't speak English. Also, as Shanghai was such a big bustling city, Sydney felt a bit like the countryside, especially on the weekends, as no shops were open back then!
•shock 令人震驚的事件(或經歷);驚愕,震驚 (come as a great shock 讓人倍感震驚)
•a bustling city 繁華都會
★★★★★★★★★★★★
We were very much reliant on my dad, not only financially, but also as a conduit into the wider community. So to have that broken was quite distressing. I remember Mum crying a lot. As we had become socially isolated, we didn’t find out anything about Centrelink, so we survived on her savings for a while, and then got some help from her family back in China.
•be reliant on…
•a conduit into 進入...
•distressing (adj.)
•survive on her savings
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Eventually, Mum moved us down to Melbourne, where we were able to make some new networks and family friendships. But I was bullied a bit at school about things like my food and clothing! Whenever someone bullied me, I would defend myself, but because I didn’t have the language skills to explain to the teacher why, I got in trouble quite a bit. I ended up having to move school 3 times before I came to Balwyn Primary School, which was relatively multicultural.
•be able to 能夠
•make new networks 建立新的人脈,關係網
•be bullied 被霸凌
•get in trouble 惹上麻煩
★★★★★★★★★★★★
After that, I did alright. Music featured very prominently in my life. I had started learning the violin from the age of 2.5 years old and even with all the troubles that were going on in my life, had somehow still kept up with it. As a result, I got a music scholarship to Trinity Grammar School. But even there I used to get into quite a lot of mischief, and would often skip school to go to the movies.
•feature (v.)
★★★★★★★★★★★★
By the end of year 11, I was told I would have to either repeat the year, or consider going to another school, which was quite humiliating for my mum. I decided to move school and surprisingly, I ended up doing quite well in year 12! As a result, I ended up getting into a double degree in Law and Music at Monash.
•repeat the year 留級 ; 重唸一年
★★★★★★★★★★★★
When I started, my first thought was that I didn’t belong because I had done so badly in school up to year 11 and everyone else seemed so smart. But I put my head down, got through it, and ended up getting a job in the legal department of a major manufacturing company, which was a different approach to what most law students do.
•do not belong 不屬於這
•put my head down 埋頭苦幹
•the legal department of ...
•a different approach 不同途徑
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I really enjoyed it. It was hard work, but I learned a lot of foundational business, legal and corporate communication skills. After that I worked in corporate governance in RMIT, then started to moonlight as a lecturer in the Law Faculty. Eventually, they asked me if I wanted to do a PhD and I blindly said yes! I next worked at Swinburne University, and then was head-hunted to lead the corporate legal team at the Commercial Passenger Vehicles Commission.
•corporate governance
•moonlight (v.)
•headhunt (v.)

I had a good life, but after a while, I realised I wanted a different kind of job. I could see my seniors were making a lot of money but that their family life was not that good. And looking at my own upbringing, I wanted to be the kind of father who could be present in my own kids’ lives. So I decided on dentistry. It would not only allow me to use the hand skills that I had developed from playing the violin, but also the analytical and reasoning skills that I'd developed in law. Plus it would be flexible, and offer me a stable income and the chance to meet different people every day!
•analytical and reasoning skills
•offer a stable income

My now fiancée, who was my girlfriend at the time, was also applying for further study, and coincidentally we both got into university in South Australia, so we moved to Adelaide together a few years ago.
•fiancée 未婚妻
•at the time 當時
•apply for 申請

I was lucky to get a university job at Flinders University. Initially, I started out as a casual lecturer in the law school, but I’ve since transitioned into teaching health law and research, and I’m currently writing a few books on the intersection between law and medicine. And also, obviously, trying to finish my dentistry degree!
•start out as…
•transition into…

Mum eventually retrained as a Chinese high school teacher, and she’s still teaching to this day. Like most first generation migrants, she struggled quite a lot, and invested heavily in my success. After we’re married, my fiancée and I are planning to have children, and I’m sure they will have it much easier than I did.
•to this day 至今
•have it much easier

Still, a lot of the failures that I’ve had in my life have really informed a lot of my successes. Looking back, I wouldn't really want to change that to have a smoother life.

•have a smoother life 有一個更順遂的人生

Over the years, I've learned that perseverance is very important. I hope that through telling my story, I can be an example to others who might be in a similar position as I was: to show that there's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. •over the years 多年來
•be an example 成為榜樣
•be in a similar position
•down the road/line/track

Advance the Gospel in the Way that God Leads you
“Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20 WEB)
Jesus was not just commissioning the apostles to preach the Gospel. It is obvious because the twelve did not manage to reach all the nations in their lifetime. This commission is for every believer throughout time. The words which Jesus spoke in the passage above are know as “The Great Commission”.
I am so glad that Jesus did not just give a command and leave us scratching our heads on how to fulfill it. He sandwiched the command between two statements of provision.
Firstly, Jesus used all the authority He had to give us authority to preach the Gospel so that people from all nations would be saved.
Then, at the end of the passage, He assured us of His ever-abiding presence with us.
We are not trying to preach the Gospel by our own strength and eloquence. We have Jesus’ authority which allows us to access God’s power for confirming signs and wonders to back up our message. Additionally, Jesus is with us through His Spirit, to empower us to preach, and to teach us what to say or do.
Although every Christian is sent to preach the Gospel, relatively few are called to preach from stage. Most do not. When the words “preach” or “ministry” are used, don’t limit your imagination to some person in a suit preaching from the stage to a huge crowd.
There may be Christians led by the Spirit to start a soup kitchen where they feed the poor and share the love of Christ by their actions.
Other Christians are led to buy gifts and hand them out to the people they know. The gifts may contain a handwritten note, saying things like, “I know you’re going through a tough time, but I am praying that God will surely help and restore you. The Lord Jesus loves you with an everlasting love!”
There are so many ways to minister the Gospel to others. The Holy Spirit knows all the ways, and He matches you with a certain way that fits you. That is why it is pointless to compare yourself with others.
I first learnt about Pastor Joseph Prince and New Creation Church because my friend and business associate handed me the book “Destined to Reign”.
I remember I was sitting on a coach in Las Vegas, USA, on the way to see the Grand Canyon. The book was my good companion during the journey, and I was absolutely mind-blown by Pastor’s sharing of the true Gospel. The chains of legalism and performance-based salvation fell off, and the sweet love of God flooded my heart.
After that vacation, I invited myself to that business associate’s church (NCC), determined to heard more Gospel truths from Pastor Prince in person. You see, this Christian lady’s ministry looked different from a pastor preaching on stage. She handed out books that she bought, and these acts of friendliness and generosity planted seeds of the Gospel in people’s hearts, producing a powerful ripple effect that blessed many.
You are uniquely designed by God. Your calling is also tailor-made for you. No one can do it better because you have a unique set of life experiences, relationships, gifts, and knowledge to reach a niche crowd of the unsaved.
Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you and give you opportunities to share the Gospel in the way that He wants you to.
Even if you are not good with words, and you consider yourself antisocial, if you are good at earning lots of money, then give towards ministries that preach the true Gospel which is the Grace of Christ. This is why God blessed you with wealth and the power to get it. Your giving enables ministries to reach more people with the Gospel and plant more seeds for salvation.
This Facebook page, “Milton Goh Blog and Sermon Notes” is one of the platforms from which I minister the Gospel. I started it in July 2014, when I was on vacation with my ex-girlfriend (who is my current wife), in Gold Coast, Australia. In the cold hotel room, I suddenly felt led to start the page on my laptop, and to sharing my writings with people around the world. Never did I imagine that this page would one day have 42k likes and over 200k people reached with the Gospel twice daily each month.
Help this ministry to further fulfill its mission of “Reach More, Teach More”. In these end times, every second is precious. If you want to partner with us to win souls, and also share in the eternal rewards, join us as a patron on Patreon. “God Every Morning” tier and above patrons also receive daily devotionals by email, daily themed Bible Study teachings in the patron WhatsApp chat group, and all my eBooks. New to me products on rotation! ✨
A few new things I’ve been enjoying this past month!
🍂 Sky High mascara in waterproof is working out well for me. Pain to take off those but about 97% smudge / flake-free, so that's amazing.
🍂 Contact lenses! I have been getting back into wearing these more, now that I’m going out of the house for longer periods and fewer computer days! @dimplecontacts was introduced to me here on IG. They are a subscription-based contact lens service (no lock-in contracts). Affordable but high-quality made in my home county Australia!
For those that are in Hong Kong, they offer a 10-day trial. Just pay HKD28 for shipping, so worth a try!
🍂 Stunning NARS bronzer - see yesterdays post. Could you give it a like while you're there?. 😜
Ha just released the next three are from an @iherb order!
🍂 The elf hydrating came concealer is quite nice for this price.
🍂 This Missha B.B Cream is a ‘hero’ product of theirs's I thought I should give it a go. I can see why it’s beautiful on the skin so dewy.
🍂 Then I was shopping on iherb for an SPF lip balm and went with this one, working out well, nice a simple.

the bag vlog was very popular
so to continue we have a Chanel... STRAP hahahaha
Sarah:Jason loves buying cameras... just love to spend actually? so the moment Fujifilm brought out a new camera, he said he'd buy it for me.... hmmm....
Jason: In all fairness, Sarah did say she wanted one for so long!
the story behind the camera isn't quite as memorable as the bag stories, and suppose getting a new camera right now is a little pointless, since we're home all the time...
but it's nice to film a variety of things, and the new camera is well worth talking about.
the Covid-19 virus is spreading all over the world, and with family and friends in England, Australia, Canada, different parts of Asia and the US, it's very worrying.
we constantly remind loved ones not to feel bad that they're wearing a face mask or if they seem to be using hand sanitiser excessively...
each country will have their own set protocol to deal with the situation, but it's all the same really... keep your hands clean, don't touch your face, avoid crowds, stay home etc...
we do have a mask wearing culture in Hong Kong, so everyone's going to do that if they have a mask.
only wearing a mask if you're sick? the experts, the doctors have been saying this for ages now, some people have the virus but don't display symptoms... so how do you know you';ve caught it? feeling fine, having no fever, not coughing doesn't mean you haven't caught the virus.
just protect yourselves how you can, look after yourself and look after each other❤️
let us know what else you wanna see
love you all!!!
